Overview

Are you a skilled Building Surveyor looking for an exciting opportunity to make a difference? We are seeking motivated individuals with excellent communication skills and technical expertise to join our Planned and Reactive Maintenance Teams within the busy Corporate Property & Assets Department.

This is an extremely exciting time to join our expanding and forward-thinking Property team, who are essential to the delivery of the Council’s Estate Strategy, Children's Homes Programme, Property Improvement Board and the implementation of a Corporate Landlord. No two days are the same, as you will be part of a team that manages and maintains a large, diverse and ever-changing property portfolio ranging from corporate offices, leisure centres, theatres, car parks, farms, schools and other assets across a 1,000-strong estate.


About Us

The Corporate Property & Assets Department, within the Council’s Communities Directorate, are responsible for maintaining the Corporate and Schools Estate. Our workload is dictated by the Council’s Capital budgeting, necessitating close interaction between Planned and Reactive Maintenance due to the nature of Property Maintenance. We deliver the annual planned maintenance programme and several one-off minor works commissions. We value collaboration, innovation, and excellence in everything we do.

About The Role

We have opportunities within our Planned Maintenance & Projects Team and our Reactive Maintenance & Contracts Team.

Planned Maintenance & Projects – Responsible for project managing construction works schemes (up to approx. £500k each) running from the Authority’s capital programmes or one-off commissions. Develop relationships with building occupiers, undertake occasional building condition surveys, maintain property records, and assist in emergencies or reactive maintenance requests.

Reactive Maintenance & Contracts – Provide technical advice and support to the Planned Maintenance and Reactive Maintenance teams. Ensure all works meet legal, health, safety, and quality standards. Responsibilities include reviewing contractor quotations, overseeing contractors, and maintaining accurate records. Manage reactive day-to-day maintenance requests (up to approx. £50k each) and assist in delivering the PPM programme (up to approx. £1.1m) to meet statutory obligations, while maintaining property records and building relationships with occupiers. You may also undertake occasional building condition surveys and assist in emergencies.

Mobile – A flexible role allowing you to schedule your diary, meet with colleagues and clients in various locations. Working from home and in the office as required.

The roles are challenging and rewarding. We seek technically qualified Building Surveyors with the ability to problem solve independently while working in a team to diagnose issues and provide workable resolutions. The varied portfolio provides constant professional challenges.


Key Accountabilities

* Be part of delivering the Council’s programmes of planned maintenance works.
* Design and oversee individual works packages through to completion.
* Diagnose issues quickly and under pressure.
* Provide intelligent, workable solutions to issues under investigation.
* Be an integral and reliable member of the Property Services team.


About You

We are looking for applicants with the necessary professional skills and attributes to meet the accountabilities listed, and with the qualifications for a Senior Building Surveyor. Experience solving issues under pressure and alignment with the Council’s PACT Values – Proud, Ambitious, Collaborative and Trustworthy – is expected.
