Job Description
Are you ready to join a team of talented Ecologists and shape the future of the environment? Join our dynamic Nature team as an Associate Ecologist in our Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle, or Liverpool offices (other locations across the UK may be considered). Our North of England regional Nature team works on large infrastructure projects in energy, water, renewables, defence, and transport sectors, alongside managing smaller local projects. We also support the wider AECOM Nature team with national and international projects.
In this role, depending on your interests and skillset, you will have opportunities to support various activities such as species and habitats surveys, data capture and reporting, work winning, project management, Habitats Regulations Assessments, and mentoring team members in Biodiversity Net Gain. Our supportive environment offers internal and external training and a nurturing mentoring framework.
Responsibilities
1. Lead the planning and delivery of ecological inputs for clients;
2. Produce and review ecological assessments including Preliminary Ecological Appraisal, Protected Species Baseline Reports, Ecological Impact Assessments, Habitats Regulations Assessments, and Biodiversity Net Gain Calculations;
3. Provide technical leadership for pragmatic and effective solutions;
4. Engage with clients and stakeholders, including planning authorities and statutory bodies;
5. Support the development of technical capabilities and promote innovation;
6. Lead bid and tender production for ecological services;
7. Mentor and support junior staff and peers.

Qualifications
* Degree in ecology or related field
* Membership of a professional body, working towards or holding Chartered Ecologist/Environmentalist status, and protected species survey/migration licences
* Knowledge of wildlife legislation and policy, with strong reporting skills
* Experience leading ecological surveys, impact assessments, and project management
* Experience in managing budgets, stakeholder engagement, and bidding processes
