6 Month Contract With A Local Authority Job Purpose The TMA Permitting Officer is responsible for managing and coordinating streetworks permit applications in line with the London Permit Scheme (LoPS) and relevant legislation. The role ensures compliance with the Traffic Management Act 2004 and minimises disruption to the highway network. Working within the Public Realm Division, the officer supports efficient service delivery, maintains accurate records, and collaborates with internal teams and external stakeholders to improve permitting processes and outcomes. Key Responsibilities Assess, validate, and process permit applications in accordance with LoPS and the Code of Practice. Identify errors or irregularities and liaise with Works Promoters via EToN. Apply and verify permit conditions to ensure safe and efficient streetworks. Record and address non-compliance under relevant legislation (e.g. Traffic Management Act 2004, NRSWA 1991). Support the issuing of Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) where applicable. Deliver a high-quality, customer-focused permitting service. Contribute to service improvement initiatives and corporate projects. Produce performance data, statistics, and reports for monitoring and planning. Assist in service reviews and implementation of improvement plans. Work collaboratively with internal departments, contractors, and statutory undertakers. Incorporate feedback from Streetworks Inspectors into permitting decisions. Prepare reports for meetings, working groups, and forums. Maintain accurate records using systems such as Mayrise, LondonWorks, and GIS tools. Support quality assurance and development of procedures and service documentation. Assist with financial monitoring, including income tracking and outstanding debt liaison. Requirements Experience in streetworks, highways, or permitting environments. Strong understanding of the London Permit Scheme (LoPS) and relevant legislation. Ability to manage multiple tasks, deadlines, and priorities effectively. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report writing. Proficiency in IT systems (MS Office, Mayrise, LondonWorks, GIS software such as MapInfo, GGP, PlanWeb). Experience delivering customer-focused public services. High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to work under pressure.
