We are looking to recruit enthusiastic, motivated Lead Healthcare Assistants with excellent communication skills to join our forward‑thinking female respiratory ward and offer a high level of clinical support to our patients.
You must have a passion for delivering kind and compassionate care and be willing to learn and develop within your role. Recruiting capable and committed staff is essential to maintaining our high standards of quality, safety and patient experience.
Main duties of the job
* Assist in the delivery of care planned and assessed by the Registered Nurses.
* Carry out care and other duties under indirect supervision.
* Supervise junior health care assistants, contributing to their training and development.
* Undertake specific extended skills.
Job responsibilities
* Obtain consent prior to giving care in accordance with Trust policies.
* Competently undertake delegated duties in line with patient care plans.
* Use knowledge and experience to undertake non‑routine duties and make decisions within your area of responsibility.
* Perform a range of limited clinical duties with minimal/no supervision, including blood pressure monitoring, oxygen saturation levels, body temperature, pulse rate, respiration rate, glucose monitoring, collection and testing of urine, faecal and sputum samples, and wound swabs, ensuring delivery of high‑quality patient care at all times. NB: this list is not exhaustive and will vary depending on area of work.
* Participate in patient assessment, provide high quality holistic patient care and escalating concerns to other clinical staff.
* Practice safe standards of care following Trust guidelines and policies and be able to concentrate for periods throughout the day with occasional interruptions.
* Provide clinical care in accordance with infection prevention and health and safety policies and procedures.
* Maintain the work environment in line with Trust infection control and patient safety policies.
* Utilise skills to actively facilitate self‑care and independence with patients.
* Promote health education specific to the clinical area and in line with national and local policies.
Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as Priority and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.

Qualification
* One of the following Level 3 (SCQF – 6): City and Guilds 3, NVQ 3, BTEC National Diploma, or demonstrable experience equivalent to the above qualifications.
* Level 2 functional skills in English and Maths, or equivalent.
* Completion of Level 3 Diploma in Healthcare Support (mapping to the Apprenticeship Standard for Senior Health Care Support Worker).
Knowledge and Experience
* Demonstrable experience of providing care in a healthcare or social setting.
* Be able to work as a member of a team.
* Demonstrable experience of time management and prioritising work.
* Understand and be committed to a caring approach to patients and relatives.
* Experience in working in a hospital setting.
Aptitude and Abilities
* Effective and appropriate communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Be able to complete appropriate documentation accurately.
* Demonstrate an awareness of healthcare work and policies and procedures.
