The Financial Reporting Council (FRC) is seeking a junior‑level Data Analyst to join our Market Intelligence & Insights (MII) function. The MII function comprises three teams – Economic Analysis, Data Analytics, and Markets and Competition Research – and is a strategic function that provides evidence‑led research and analysis to support the FRC’s policy work. A matrix‑working approach is adopted across the team.
Responsibilities
* Collect, cleanse and compile data from multiple sources for analysis and team use.
* Use tools such as Excel, Power BI and SQL to manipulate, analyse and visualise data.
* Perform regular and ad‑hoc analysis to inform project work and develop new delivery strategies.
* Present data in a clear, concise, and tailored manner to meet the needs of the FRC and supporting business teams with high‑quality information.
* Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure data‑driven decisions align with the FRC mission statement.
* Ensure data and evidence are managed safely and securely in accordance with required standards and policies.
* Quality‑assure the work of other team members.
Qualifications
* Proven analytical experience delivering data analysis in the private or public sector, or a relevant quantitative degree or data‑analyst qualification.
* Familiarity with Excel; basic knowledge of Power BI, SQL and/or Python is a plus.
* Genuine interest in data’s role in public policy and regulation.
* Understanding of the technical, legal, ethical and security implications of data in evidence‑based policy making.
* Curiosity and motivation to learn new topics and ways of working.
* Excellent teamwork, enthusiasm and ability to deliver under tight deadlines.
* Motivation to learn and grow within the role over time.
Ideal candidate (additional)
* Experience of regulation, company reporting and analysing financial statements is desirable but not essential.
* Advanced Excel skills and a solid grasp of SQL and Python.
* Experience with large, multi‑source datasets and dashboard tools, particularly Power BI.
* Excellent oral and written communication, with the ability to convey complex concepts to non‑technical audiences.
* Strong client‑management skills and experience working with diverse stakeholder teams.
* Good time‑management and ability to manage multiple concurrent deliverables.
Location and working arrangement
The role is based in our central Birmingham office. The post holder should be able to work flexibly to support the team’s activities and provide cover within the FRC as necessary. The FRC operates a hybrid working arrangement, with an expectation that 40 % of working time will be located at an office per week, with precise arrangements agreed between the employee and line manager.
