Description The Service & Team: This post will be within the Autism in Schools Team, working alongside the Autism Advisors and line managed by a Senior Educational Psychologist. The team works to meet the needs of neurodivergent children and young people throughout Cornwall, in order to improve their access to the full curriculum and improve outcomes. The Role: The role will include proactive work with families, education providers, health colleagues and other colleagues across Cornwall’s SEND and Inclusion system. The successful applicant will champion inclusive practice and ethos, upskilling the workforce to meet needs effectively at the earliest possible stage. They will facilitate practice in schools and settings which increase the wellbeing, engagement and aspirations of children, young people and their families. The successful applicant will line manage an ADHD support worker. This is a public/customer-facing role, where the statutory English language requirement for public sector workers applies. This position will be subject to an enhanced criminal record disclosure check. Working Pattern: This is a one year fixed-term contract, starting in September 2026 or earlier if mutually convenient. It is a 0.8 post (4 days/week). The role will involve face-to-face work with schools and families across Cornwall. The successful applicant will need to be able to travel independently around the county, taking into account that many of our schools are remote and difficult to access by public transport. We have a number of key office bases around the county which the successful applicant could use alongside hybrid working. A mutually-agreed base will be identified. What you’ll need to succeed: The successful applicant will have Qualified Teacher Status (or equivalent) with at least two years recent, relevant experience. We are also looking for: Successful and recent experience in teaching and/or supporting pupils with a wide range of special educational needs in schools/settings (including those with additional needs), with a particular interest and/or experience in ADHD. Knowledge and understanding of current, up to date SEND legislation. Successful recent experience of working with a range of professionals and supporting/actively listening to families. Successful recent experience of being a change agent; influencing the performance and understanding of professional colleagues to improve the outcomes for children and young people. An awareness, understanding and commitment to the protection and safeguarding of children and young people. The ability to work independently as well as functioning as part of a team. Excellent and effective written and verbal communication skills with a range of people (e.g. children and young people, parents and carers, other professionals) and in a range of contexts, including training. Ability to effectively and efficiently use IT. Good organisational skills and ability to prioritise work within time constraints Ability to deliver training. Extensive knowledge of theory and current evidence-based practice relating to ADHD, including neuroaffirming practice.
