Job Summary
The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, development, integration, and testing of VTOL drone flight control systems and hybrid energy distribution systems. The systems will need a control interface with the telemetry to monitor power electronics, power sources, sensors, and motor inverter.
Your Responsibilities
1. Collaborate with colleagues to capture communications and control system requirements to meet the needs of the powertrain and aircraft.
2. Design overall communications and control system for a hybrid battery and fuel-cell powertrain.
3. Model and simulate the system, covering normal operating conditions as well as off-design and emergency conditions.
4. Perform a FMEA of the system, ensuring compliance with applicable industry standards.
5. Identify the appropriate hardware (instrumentation, sensors, actuators, PCBs, computers etc.) for the system and support procurement.
6. Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure delivery of parts to specification in a timely fashion.
7. Support the assembly and test of the control system.
8. Conduct a test campaign to safely validate control system performance.
9. Fully document the design and safe operation of the control system.
10. Manage project work packages through full lifetime maintaining budgetary control, risk management and technical quality to ensure work packages meet their objectives.
11. Document and report progress to line manager.
Essential Skills
University degree in aerospace/electrical/controls engineering or similar.
3+ years with development and/or design of control systems.
Has previously built and tested a PID or state-machine control system.
Experience doing FMEA of control systems.
Experience with CAN bus communication.
Model-based systems development with MATLAB/Simulink/Stateflow environment and code generation to C/C++ with Embedded Coder.
Experience with sensor, instrumentation, and NI DAQ.
Working understanding of electrical systems including batteries, power electronics, electric motor etc.
Desirable
1. 5+ years with development and/or design of aerospace control systems.
2. Experience with control systems including high voltage battery
3. Experience with control systems including PEMFC.
4. Knowledge of aerospace control standards.
5. Experience with Simulink desktop real-time.
6. Experience with multi-rotor VTOL control and experience with Pixhawk/PX4.
