Programme Overview
Severn Trent Capital and Commercial Services design and deliver water and wastewater infrastructure, including pipelines and treatment facilities. As a Graduate Engineer the work you undertake will be interesting and varied.
The programme will enable you to spend time in our hydraulics design team, delivering projects that serve our client’s day‑to‑day needs, designing systems for drainage, sewage treatment plants, water supply, water treatment plants, reservoirs and pump stations.
You will be working on the hydraulics of the systems covering material selections, construction of pipelines, operating conditions and energy consumption.
How do we meet the challenge of population growth? How do we navigate the extreme weather events that are becoming more frequent because of climate change? How do we deal with water shortages and longer periods of drought? How do we reduce our carbon emissions and mitigate the impact our business processes have on our planet? These critical challenges are being tackled by our teams and you could work alongside engineers trialling the best technology and innovation in the industry, making groundbreaking changes for future generations.
You will gain real insight into the sheer scale of engineering that goes into our water and wastewater treatment and distribution services through three 9‑month unique placements across our engineering design teams.
Placements may involve working in a waste workstream designing sewerage systems or waste‑treatment tanks, or in a clean water design team undertaking distribution pipe design or clean water treatment plant design. We welcome graduates from diverse backgrounds, as diverse minds bring new ideas and different ways of thinking.
We are looking for someone who wants to build a career with us and grasp new opportunities, and in return we will support you with varied experiences, training and development to provide a grounding for your future career.
What you will learn and develop
You will be based at Raynesway in Derby, the heart of our operating patch. The programme requires you to complete placements throughout your time in the role, gaining exposure in different areas of the department so that you are equipped with the right skills to build your career here at Severn Trent.
In this exciting programme, you will discuss your development and career ambitions in 1‑to‑1 meetings with business leads, mentors, a study buddy, the cohort leader and the New Talent Team.
You will expand your knowledge of project and people management, learning how to effectively manage and influence stakeholders. You will also develop strong business and commercial acumen, planning strategically with time, cost and quality in mind, and learn what it takes to successfully design and deliver infrastructure projects across multidisciplinary teams and our supply chain.
We want our employees to care and to have a genuine passion for what we do as a business. We need people who want to make a difference in providing a vital service to our customers, now and for the long‑term.
