Reporting to the Program Director of the Institute for Physical Therapy Education, the Clinical Assistant Professor is a 10‑month full‑time, non‑tenure‑track position with responsibilities in teaching, scholarly, and service activities. The faculty member will contribute to the University by teaching entry‑level physical therapy curriculum that advances the University’s College of Health & Human Services mission.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

* Teaching:
o Teach in areas of expertise and program need.
o Develop and teach courses in the entry‑level DPT Program in collaboration with, but ultimately designated by, the Program Director.
o Ensure courses and syllabi are current and available to all students.
o Demonstrate competency in teaching as evidenced by supervisor, peer, and student evaluations.
o Demonstrate expertise in teaching responsibility and content delivery methods.
o Demonstrate skill in course preparation, delivery, and assessment.
o Participate in curriculum development that facilitates an inclusive teaching and learning environment.
o Demonstrate commitment to working with a diverse student population.
o Participate in team and/or interdisciplinary teaching.
o Engage in life‑long learning by seeking faculty development opportunities and teacher effectiveness tools to improve teaching.
o Engage in service as an academic advisor and/or mentor for students and/or student organizations.
o Maintain regular office hours and support students who reach out for assistance, identifying those who need extra attention to succeed through email, phone, or other appropriate communication.
* Scholarship / Practice:
o Engage in scholarly/clinical work related to area of interest on a regular basis and as required by expectations of the non‑tenure‑track position.
o Maintain currency of clinical and professional knowledge through regular continuing education.
* Service:
o Attend all University academic events and faculty meetings as required by the faculty handbook.
o Participate in student recruitment, admission, and retention activities.
o Serve as an academic advisor and/or mentor for students.
o Serve on Program, College, and University Committees as indicated.
o Assist in the accreditation process, including preparation of documents and narratives for self‑study reports.
o Participate in service to the profession.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education / training and experience required)

* Required:
o Earned degree in Physical Therapy (e.g., DPT) from an accredited college or university and/or academic doctorate degree.
o Pennsylvania Physical Therapist licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of Pennsylvania.
o Minimum of 5 years clinical experience as a licensed Physical Therapist.
o Minimum of 3 years (5 or more years preferred) teaching experience in physical therapy education settings.
* Preferred:
o 8 years clinical experience as a licensed Physical Therapist.
o 5 years teaching experience in the academic setting in some capacity.
o Preferred in-depth knowledge of adult neurologic, cardiopulmonary, and/or musculoskeletal physical therapist practice and scientific knowledge base (in‑depth knowledge of additional areas strongly encouraged).


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND / OR UNUSUAL HOURS

* Must be able to sit, stand, and move about a classroom and/or campus for extended periods of time.
* May need to lift supplies of up to 20 lbs per item.
* May be required to be available to students and clinical faculty via phone, email, or other means of communication during nights and weekends.
* May be required to travel for face‑to‑face meetings with students and clinical faculty as budget allows.
