Job Summary

We are seeking a proactive and detail-focused Finance Assistant to join a small but growing finance team within a manufacturing environment. This role plays an important part in ensuring the accuracy of financial processing, reporting, and internal invoicing. The business is undergoing significant improvement of processes, costing structures, and use of its ERP system (Sage X3), so the successful candidate will be someone with strong logic, a positive attitude, and a desire to make a meaningful impact.

The Finance Assistant will work closely with the Finance Manager and an existing Finance Assistant and will support both Sales Ledger and Purchase Ledger as well as manufacturing-related analysis.


Primary Responsibilities

Sales Ledger & Invoicing

* Ensuring accurate and timely customer invoicing, including internal invoicing cycles to Taylor Wimpey group companies (operating on 4-5 week cycles).
* Chasing overdue customer invoices and managing related queries.
* Allocating customer receipts accurately.

Purchase Ledger & Transaction Processing

* Assisting with daily financial transactions and bookkeeping activities.
* Processing Purchase Ledger invoices and ensuring correct VAT codes.
* Managing the shared finance mailbox and responding to all finance-related queries.
* Supporting weekly payment runs and allocating all supplier payments.
* Performing supplier statement reconciliations.

Month-End Responsibilities

* Processing journals.
* Maintaining monthly Fixed Assets, Prepayments and Accruals schedules.
* Performing monthly bank reconciliations.
* Completing monthly processing checklists to ensure reconciliations and controls are fully completed.

Supporting production of:

* Monthly Cost Reports
* Monthly Profit Forecasting
* Monthly Cashflow Reports Data, Reporting & Analysis
* Extracting data from Sage X3 through SQL queries (training available).
* Supporting manufacturing-related analysis, costing and logic-based investigation.
* Performing initial reviews to identify reporting discrepancies or control issues and escalating as needed.
* Assisting in the ongoing improvement of reporting processes, data flow, and system usage.

Systems & Processes

* Work with Sage X3 (ERP) - including manual processes and SQL-extracted reporting.
* Support the team as the business works to improve its pricing structure, costing logic, and overall financial controls.
* Actively contribute to streamlining internal processes and ensuring more efficient use of X3 across functions.


Experience, Qualifications, Technical Requirements

* Strong sense of logic and a proactive, positive attitude.
* Interest in data extraction and systems (SQL/ERP experience beneficial but not essential). Ability to work in a manufacturing-driven finance environment rather than a service-based one. Someone who enjoys improving processes and making a difference.
* AAT is helpful but not essential.
* Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a small team. Comfortable working across both Sales Ledger and Purchase Ledger.
