Description
This is a crucial role as part of the ITV News London senior team - commissioning and overseeing the delivery of content for ITV News London's flagship 6pm programme.
The role requires a journalist who has a proven track record of delivering first class news programmes, managing teams, commissioning content, working with newsgathering and a clear understanding of ITV News London's digital strategy online and on ITVX.
This role requires a journalist with sound news judgement and the ability to motivate a team in a creative and disciplined manner in a fast-paced deadline driven environment. As it's senior within the ITV News London team, the successful candidate will be required to act up as ITV News London Editor and be able to demonstrate management experience. Key Responsibilities
1. Understand and drive the London news agenda - making key judgements to provide an appropriate mix of stories for our 6pm progammes and other platforms.
2. To output ITV News programmes in the gallery – working closely with presenters and Gallery teams.
3. Take final decisions, often under pressure, and communicate those decision to the wider London team
4. Hold team meetings, brief Reporters and Correspondents, News Desks and Newscasters about content on the London 6pm programme
5. Act up as Editor of ITV News London when required - attending senior regional and ITN meetings, making decisions on content, staffing and budgets
6. Drive the agenda for the late news and lunch bulletin
7. Lead on innovative and creative ways to tell stories on ITV News London
8. Confidently make decisions around legal issues, taste and decency, and demonstrate a good understanding of the right decisions to escalate
9. Ensure London's programme and other platforms reflect the diversity of our audience through a balanced mix of reporters and contributors covering stories that connect with our viewers
10. To line manage colleagues in the London newsroom - taking on all mentoring, development, pastoral, appraisals and other duties
11. Work closely with all parts of the ITV News operation, ensuring there is close co-operation, understanding and creative cross-promotion of all ITV platforms

12. Proven experience of producing or planning impactful, high-quality and distinctive News content to deadlines and under pressure
13. A lively, creative and dynamic leader with excellent people management skills and the ability to work well in a team
14. A good communicator with a strong ability to solve problems and to brief and lead colleagues in the London newsroom
15. Experience in leading and managing teams
16. A strong knowledge of the capital's news agenda – including a good understanding of key stories and issues including news, sport and entertainment
17. An excellent grasp of the techniques of using video to tell stories
18. A strong knowledge of ITV News software and workflows
19. An excellent understanding of the importance of diversity in our programmes
20. Strong awareness of health and safety protocols and an ability to dynamically risk assess
21. Strong awareness of all relevant legal and compliance regulations that affect our output
