Transpennine Route Upgrade
The Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) is a £10.7 billion programme of activities that is improving the railway between York and Manchester via Leeds and Huddersfield. Stretching across the North of England, this key 76‑mile Transpennine railway serves 23 stations, crosses over and dips under 285 bridges and viaducts, passes through six miles of tunnels, and crosses over 11 level crossings. Proposed improvements will deliver a hard‑working, reliable railway for passengers, allowing for trains with more seats, more services and faster journey times.
About The Role
Join the Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) as a Risk & Value Assistant and support the delivery of one of the UK’s largest and most complex infrastructure programmes. Working within the Risk & Value Management (R&VM) team, you will play a key role in supporting the implementation of the programme’s risk management strategy, helping to generate high‑quality insights that inform decision‑making across projects and disciplines. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate in Risk Management, Project Management, or a related discipline to begin their career within a major programme environment. You will gain exposure to industry‑leading tools, methodologies, and experienced professionals, while developing your capability in project risk, analytics, and assurance.
* Support the delivery of the programme’s Risk & Value Management strategy across TRU
* Assist in producing high‑quality risk analysis and insights to inform decision‑making at project and programme level
* Support Risk Managers and Analysts in the delivery of quantitative and qualitative risk‑management activities
* Contribute to risk workshops, risk reviews, and reporting processes
* Assist in the development and improvement of risk‑management processes, tools, and outputs
* Support capability development across the programme by promoting good risk‑management practices and behaviours
* Ensure risk data is accurate, consistent, and aligned with programme standards
* Work collaboratively with project teams and stakeholders to support effective risk‑management integration
We need you to have:
* Educated to ‘A’ level standard in Maths and/or science subjects
* Good verbal and written communication skills
* Ability to integrate with a team and operate as a team player
* Ability to work in a delivery‑focused and challenging work environment
* Ability to manage activities within agreed timescales
* Good data analysis and processing skills
* To have sufficient leadership competencies to be classed as an ‘Intermediate’ in at least one Leadership Competency and the capability to attain this level in all
It would be advantageous if you have:
* Degree in Risk Management, Project Management, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline
* Understanding of risk‑management principles and methodologies (e.g. ISO 31000, quantitative risk analysis)
* Experience (academic or placement) using data analysis tools (e.g. Excel, Power BI, or similar)
* Awareness of project delivery or infrastructure environments
* Working towards or interest in professional accreditation (e.g. APM Risk Practitioner)
* Strong analytical and numerical skills with attention to detail

Your Experience And Skills
We’re looking for a motivated and analytically minded individual who is keen to start or develop a career in Risk & Value Management within a major infrastructure programme.
* Be a recent graduate (or equivalent) in Risk Management, Project Management, or a related field
* Have a strong interest in data, analysis, and how insights drive better decisions
* Be curious, proactive, and eager to learn from experienced professionals
* Communicate clearly and confidently, with the ability to work with a range of stakeholders
* Be organised and capable of managing multiple tasks and deadlines
* Demonstrate a collaborative, team‑oriented approach
* Show a genuine desire to contribute to improving risk‑management capability across a large programme
