Job Overview
Pharmacy Technician / Science Manufacturing Technician – Pharmacy Production Unit, Royal Gwent Hospital.
We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic technician to join our Pharmacy Production Unit, which provides a comprehensive aseptic preparation service, including injectable systemic anti‑cancer therapy (SACT) and parenteral nutrition for neonatal and adult patients across the health board.
This post involves organising the production service’s day‑to‑day activities, supervising staff, and undertaking accuracy checks of aseptically prepared products. Previous aseptic experience is essential. The current service may transfer to NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership as part of the TrAMs programme; contact the recruiting manager for further details.
Main Duties
* Coordinate workload and supervise staff within the Pharmacy Production team.
* Help maintain and develop the technical aspects of the service to ensure items prepared meet patient needs.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
* BTEC in Pharmaceutical Science with NVQ level 3 Pharmacy Services or Principles of Aseptic Pharmaceuticals Processing (Level 3) plus training and experience to degree or equivalent level of knowledge and experience.
Desirable criteria
* Accredited Pre and In‑Process Checking Operator.
* Evidence of continuing professional development.
Registration
Essential criteria
* Registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council, or Registered Science Technician with the Science Council.
Experience
Essential criteria
* Experience in training and supervision of trainees.
* Experience working in a Hospital Pharmacy Aseptic Unit / Technical Services.
* Knowledge of principles of GMP.
Desirable criteria
* Experience of managing staff.
* Experience of working with NHS / Pharmacy procurement systems.

Pay & Salary
The Agenda for Change Pay Award for 2026/27 is effective from 1 April 2026. Successful applicants with a start date from 1 April onwards will receive a salary as per the 2026/27 pay award.
