Independent Forgings and Alloys Ltd (IFA) is continuing to invest and grow, having doubled our turnover over the last few years. We’re looking to add an experienced Instruments Engineer to help drive this growth.

As a member of our Maintenance Engineering team, you will work Monday to Friday, rotating between two shift patterns (6am‑1:30pm and 12‑7:30pm). The role primarily focuses on furnace instrumentation and fire system maintenance.


Main Duties

* Furnace Fires electrical fault finding/wiring.
* Furnace Fires mechanical maintenance – fault‑find with/without mechanical drawings and repair to keep production running.
* Furnace instrumentation calibration – carry out calibration in line with requirements and edit/ save PID control settings of all controller types.
* Daily furnace inspection – identify potential issues with refractories, door jambs, lintels, and modules.
* Identify refractory materials used in all furnaces.
* Hearth/volume surveys – set up a volume survey as per drawings, select thermocouples, log ID tags.
* Use the Areodaq 6180A TUS recorder to survey all temperature ranges per class & survey schedule, produce detailed TUS reports, and submit to quality for approval; upon approval update the TUS calendar.
* IT skills – produce working documents to a standard that will pass internal and external audits (Excel/Word/PowerPoint/Eurotherm TUS surveys/CAD or other drawing package/furnace fault logbook).


You Should Have

* Working knowledge of gas‑fired furnaces.
* Skilled in fault‑finding to a component level.
* Experience in the maintenance of furnaces.
* Knowledge of NADCAP and RPS953 specifications.
* Pyrometry Training Program (PRI) qualification.
* Completed Fuel & Combustion Equipment external training course.
* Ability to fault‑find with/without electrical drawings and carry out necessary repairs to enable production to continue (to 17th Edition IEE wiring regulations).
