Are you a dynamic and inspiring conductor with a passion for musical theatre and youth development? Hampshire Music Service is seeking a talented Conductor to lead the Hampshire County Youth Show Choir (HCYC) and Training Choir, working within our vibrant ensemble pyramid.
The Role:
The HCYCs give students across Hampshire the opportunity to perform choral and vocal ensemble repertoire in renowned concert venues such as The Anvil in Basingstoke, Winchester Cathedral, and The Royal Albert Hall in London. Members also benefit from exciting partnership work with professional performance groups and conductors.
This role focuses on the Show Choir and Training Choir, supporting progression and excellence across the pyramid.
What you’ll do:
1. Training and rehearsal the ensemble to a high musical standard
2. Directing the ensemble in three performances across the academic year.
3. Working alongside other HMS ensemble directors in shared performances, workshops and opportunities to develop close links that enable progression routes for pupils.
4. Attending meetings of ensemble staff as appropriate.
5. Ensure that the policies and requirements of HMS and HCC are met regarding health and safety, GDPR, and safeguarding.
6. Attend rehearsals in time before members arrive, and leave after they have been collected, delegating this role if/as necessary.
7. Being fully accountable for the musical standards and outcomes of the ensemble
8. Ensure effective administration, in line with HMS processes, in all aspects of their ensemble.
9. Deputise for members of staff if required.
What we’re looking for:
10. Strong experience of conducting youth ensembles is highly desirable.
11. Ability to programme appropriate repertoire that enables excellent engagement and progression from all members of the ensemble.
12. A strong understanding of the role that the ensemble has to support the technical and musical development of its members.
13. Have the musical expertise to interpret, rehearse, and deliver authentic and credible performances of repertoire appropriate to the standard of this ensemble and require a highly analytical and knowledgeable approach. This needs to be carefully balanced with strong interpersonal skills that will inspire a large group of young musicians.
14. Experience of working with young musicians within an ensemble setting, including the management of residential visits and overseas tours.
15. Excellent communication skills.
16. The ability to cope well under pressure.
