Overview
We are open to receive applications from various disciplines and backgrounds including Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Social Care, Therapy, and/or those with experience working with children and young people in care. This is a unique short-term service to support children in mental health crisis, prevent admission to hospital or enable timely discharge, and move them on to settled placements. The post is a Band 6 clinician role within a multidisciplinary team with Health, Social Care and Psychiatry expertise at Cherry Tree Cottage, an Ofsted registered children’s home (HPFT and HCC Social Services) for looked-after children. The service aims to provide crisis containment and therapeutic support to children and young people with social and co-morbid mental health difficulties, collaborating with the Registered Manager, Team Leader, HPFT Clinical Lead, Consultant Psychiatrist, and other clinicians. The home uses the ARC (Attachment, Regulation and Competency) framework and Non-violent Resistance ethos, with training provided to operate within this framework.
The post-holder will work under the supervision of a Team Leader and in conjunction with the Registered Manager to plan, develop, deliver and review a high-quality, service-user focused service that supports crisis containment and promotes wellbeing.
Responsibilities
* Undertake mental health assessment, risk assessment, care plan management and reviews for children and young people with complex mental health and co-morbid social care needs.
* Undertake crisis containment work including therapeutically engaging activities for CYP admitted to the home for a limited time.
* Provide advice and consultation to other team members regarding mental health care of CYP in the home.
* Provide reparative parenting to safeguard and promote welfare and ensure the home meets legislative requirements, including the National Quality Standards for residential homes.
* Follow all HPFT and HCC policies and local procedures.
* Support children and adolescents to develop socially, educationally and emotionally through effective assessment, care planning and liaison with other agencies.
* Respond appropriately to children with challenging behaviour and understand the purpose of children’s homes.
* Carry out day-to-day home duties such as cooking and cleaning, taking children to school, activities and appointments, administering medication, maintaining the home environment, and modelling appropriate behaviour; work shifts including long shifts, weekends, bank holidays and occasional travel for holidays (UK and abroad) as required.
* Provide a safe and containing environment to stabilise mental health so that children can return to their original placement and enhance placement stability.
* Support running therapeutic groups within the home for the young people.
* Plan and organise work with accurate, clear, concise communication and integrate into a multi-professional health and social care team; oversee care team responsibilities.
* Work with the team leader and manager to ensure clinical governance initiatives and service framework targets are met; initiate and participate in service audits; promote service user feedback.
Qualifications & Skills
* Open to applicants from Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Social Care, Therapy, or related backgrounds with experience working with children and young people in care.
* Ability to work within the ARC framework and Non-violent Resistance ethos; willingness to learn and operate within this model.
* Strong assessment, care planning and inter-agency liaison skills; ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
* Flexibility to work varied shifts and respond to the needs of the children in the home.
