Media and Drama Technician

SALARY: NJC Scale 2 point 4 £29,025 FTE (Actual Salary £24,827) 36 hours per week, 39 weeks per year (TTO)

CONTRACT: Permanent

LOCATION: The Ravensbourne School, Hayes Lane, Bromley BR2 9EH

REPORTING TO: Head of Faculty

We are looking for a creative, organised, and technically skilled Drama and Media Technician to support our Performing Arts and Media departments. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and maintaining costumes, props, cameras, lighting, and set equipment, as well as supporting the organisation, cataloguing, and editing of student work for assessments and exam submissions. This role includes providing technical support for school performances and events, such as lighting, sound, projection, and video production. The technician will also assist in producing promotional materials, train students in technical theatre skills, and support those undertaking the BTEC TECH Award in Performing Arts, especially students choosing a technical route. Additional responsibilities include editing audition footage and showreels, leading lunchtime technical clubs, and coordinating work experience placements for T-Level students. This is a varied, hands-on role, ideal for someone passionate about supporting student creativity and technical learning in a dynamic school environment.


Key Responsibilities

* To organise, control, catalogue and manage Media and Drama Costume, Props and Equipment Rooms, including camera, lighting and set storage areas. This includes managing student bookings and checking and maintaining equipment.
* To organise and manage the cataloguing of all student work through digital shared folders, and support staff in uploading, editing and organising footage for submission to external examiners and BTEC SVs.
* Be responsible for editing workshop footage and final performance evidence for moderations and examinations.
* To support departments in the creation and updates of promotion material through editing, photography and visual media skills.
* To be responsible for setting up of stage lighting in studios, ensuring equipment maintenance including liaison with Heads of Departments and outside repair agencies.
* Provide training to students on using lighting equipment to enhance their vital vocational learning.
* To support staff in the inclusive provision of a Technical option for students taking the new BTEC TECH Award in Performing Arts (2022+ Spec) and reluctant performers through technical skills of Makeup, Lighting, Set and Hair Design.
* To provide technical support for students in performances through lights/sound/projection and video footage/images.
* Run technical rehearsals and/or additional training for students (and/or staff) after school.
* To create and prepare resources essential to the delivery of the curriculum, including set pieces, props and puppetry.
* To ensure all studios and teaching rooms are well organized and presented, well maintained, with resources, equipment, and materials readily available and accessible.
* To have responsibility for mounting and displaying Film Projects and Performance work in corridor areas.
* To be responsible for the stocktaking of existing resources on an annual basis, and to assist the Heads of Department in the preparation and processing of purchase orders for production equipment and materials.
* To maintain order and a safe and practical working environment through cyclical maintenance and cleaning of technical equipment.
* To support Post 16 students in the filming and editing of their audition videos for Drama School and University.
* To support Post 16 students in the creation, editing and storage of their showreels.
* To edit any footage requiring technical creativity skills including student performance work.
* To facilitate lunchtime clubs and activities that support students with technical interests.
* To support all performance events and media projects including School and Studio Productions.
* Co-ordinate work experience for T-Level and liaise with employers
* Attend fortnightly departmental meetings.

* To assist in the development of appropriate syllabuses, resources, schemes of work, marking policies and teaching strategies in the subject area
* To contribute to the subject area’s Development Plan and its implementation
* To attend all appropriate meetings
* To plan and prepare courses and lessons.
* To contribute to the whole academy’s planning activities
* Staff Development: Recruitment/Deployment of Staff
* To take part in the academy’s staff development programme by participating in arrangements for further training and professional development
* To continue personal development in the relevant areas including subject knowledge and teaching methods
* To engage actively in the Performance Management Review process
* To ensure the effective/efficient deployment of classroom support
* To work as a member of a designated team and to contribute positively to effective working relations within the academy


As Part Of ORION EDUCATION You Are Responsible For

* To help to implement academy quality procedures and to adhere to those
* To contribute to the process of monitoring and evaluation of the subject area in line with agreed academy procedures, including evaluation against quality standards and performance criteria
* To seek/implement modification and improvement where required
* To review from time-to-time methods of teaching and programmes of work
* To take part, as may be required, in the review, development and management of activities relating to the curriculum, organisation and pastoral functions of the academy


Communications

* To communicate effectively with the parents of students as appropriate
* Where appropriate, to communicate and co-operate with people or bodies outside the academy
* To follow agreed policies for communications in the academy
