Senior Paediatric Orthopaedic Fellow in the Department of Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery at The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The full‑time post is based primarily at Leeds General Infirmary, offering two 12‑month fellowships – one starting February 2027 and one starting February 2028. Candidates must be fully registered with the GMC and hold a licence to practice by the intended start date. Salary subject to 2026 Pay Award.
Main duties
Work in the paediatric orthopaedic department at Leeds Children’s Hospital (on site within Leeds General Infirmary). The post offers access to all acute services within the country’s second busiest Level 1 Major Trauma Centre. Daily paediatric trauma clinics, elective clinics and subspecialty clinics (paediatric limb reconstruction, adolescent hip, neuromuscular, baby hip/foot deformities) are conducted. The department sees over 3,000 referrals a year from the Yorkshire region, with a regional referral base covering the whole of Yorkshire.
Job responsibilities
* Provide advanced clinical and surgical care in all aspects of paediatric orthopaedics, preparing for a consultant post.
* Take part in research studies and contribute to departmental audit and database.
* Deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
* Manage daily paediatric trauma clinics and elective subspecialty clinics.
Qualifications
* Graduated from a recognised medical school and fully registered with the General Medical Council.
* Completion of a paediatric orthopaedic specialty training programme or equivalent.
* Demonstrated clinical experience in paediatric orthopaedics, including complex trauma and elective procedures.
Experience
* Minimum of two years’ post‑qualification experience in paediatric orthopaedic surgery.
* Experience in managing paediatric trauma and major joint reconstruction.
* Experience in academic teaching and research.
