Job Summary
As an Apprentice Pharmacy Assistant, you will support daily pharmacy operations while completing apprenticeship training under the supervision of registered pharmacy professionals.
Training and Development
* Actively participate in the Pharmacy Services Assistant Apprenticeship programme in coordination with the training provider.
* Complete all required coursework, assessments, and training modules in line with the apprenticeship framework.
Dispensing and Pharmacy Operations
* Assist in the selection, labelling, and dispensing of pharmaceutical products in accordance with prescriptions and SOPs.
* Ensure compliance with legal, ethical, and professional requirements.
* Support the accurate and timely processing of NHS and private prescriptions.
* Participate in monthly NHS prescription submissions to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
* Contribute to accurate purchasing, dispensing, and endorsing to maximise reimbursement.
Customer Service and Advice
* Deliver high standards of customer service, responding to general health and OTC enquiries.
* Use approved protocols to recommend suitable products and advise on their correct use.
* Provide information on healthy living and refer customers to the pharmacist where appropriate.
Stock and Inventory Management
* Receive and check deliveries, sort and store stock in line with SOPs.
* Ensure appropriate storage and handling of all medicines and products.
* Assist in stock control activities, maintaining adequate levels and expiry date management.
* Help prepare Monitored Dosage Systems (MDS) for care homes and other settings.
* Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure continuity of patient care.
Administrative and General Duties
* Operate the till and card machines, maintaining accurate cash handling practices.
* Maintain high standards of cleanliness, organisation and security in retail and dispensary areas.
* Keep up to date with product knowledge, industry news, and training resources.
* Perform any other reasonable duties requested by line management to support pharmacy operations.
Requirements
Other relevant qualifications and industry experience may be considered in tailoring the apprenticeship.
Skills

Other Requirements
Willingness to learn, strong commitment to the apprenticeship programme, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strong attention to detail, ability to work well in a team, caring and empathetic attitude towards customers and patients, basic numeracy, literacy, and IT skills. This role requires successful enrollment onto an approved apprenticeship programme and is subject to eligibility checks.
Training Details
At least 20% of working hours will be spent training or studying with a college or training organisation.
After this Apprenticeship
Upon successful completion of Level 2, you may progress to Level 3 Pharmacy Technician.
Hours: 40 per week
Wage: £8 per hour
