Consultant in Public Health Medicine (CPHM)/Consultant in Public Health (CPH)

NHS Lanarkshire - NHSL HQ Kirklands

The post is 8PAs (32 hours) and for non‑medical applicants 30 hours. Working hours are subject to negotiation.

This post is based within the multi‑disciplinary Directorate of Public Health. It provides an exciting opportunity to progress work to improve the health of the population of Lanarkshire and reduce health inequalities, especially via the implementation of the Scottish Government Population Health Framework.

The post‑holder must be registered on the Specialist Register of the General Medical Council in Public Health, or on the UK Public Health (Specialist) Register (or a Specialty Registrar in Public Health who is within 6 months of gaining their Certificate of Completion of Training).

Proposals for additional SPA time from applicants are encouraged. In addition to the 1 PA for Non‑DCC/SPA activities, the Board supports applications for additional SPA time from individuals with well‑developed ideas for improving services who can demonstrate a commitment to quality improvement, patient safety (including human factors training), Medical Education, Research & Development, acting as an Appraiser, etc. Applicants who can demonstrate a commitment to any of the above or other areas and wishing to commence on more than 1 PA for SPA duties should discuss proposals with the identified Recruitment Lead and/or Service Manager.

Lanarkshire offers the best of both worlds, a quiet county with excellent transport links, putting it half an hour from Glasgow and Edinburgh and within easy travelling distance of all the Central Belt and the Highlands. With a choice of affordable housing in a wide range of urban and rural locations, you can enjoy an excellent quality of life.

The University of Glasgow enjoys close links with NHS Lanarkshire, and our medical students benefit greatly from the excellent educational opportunities provided by the board in both primary and secondary care. Those who are or who will be involved in teaching our students, or in any other activity which involves a contribution to teaching, research or scholarship within the University are eligible for honorary status at the University of Glasgow.

Informal enquiries regarding this post will be welcomed by Prof Josephine Pravinkumar, Director of Public Health & Health Policy, on 01698 752952.

For any application queries, please email medical.dentalconsultant@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk
