Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen within community paediatric physiotherapy for a part time 12 month fixed term contract to cover maternity leave. We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced band 7 Paediatric Physiotherapist.

This role will require managing a busy paediatric physiotherapy caseload based at Redgrave Gardens Children and Young People’s Centre but also working in mainstream and special needs nurseries and schools. Children’s age ranges from newborns to 19 years of age.

You will be actively involved in our in house Orthopaedic clinics, be part of our Postural Management clinics and participate in joint working with the wider MDT.

Your role will involve supervision of technical instructors, students and Band 6 physios, including appraisals and teaching. You will be expected to work as an independent and autonomous practitioner, but will be supported in this role by a strong team of specialist physiotherapists and in close collaboration with a proactive and innovative team.

To be considered for this job you will hold a recognised physiotherapy qualification, be a member of the HCPC and CSP. You will have broad based postgraduate experience and demonstrable experience as a Paediatric Physiotherapist. Previous NHS experience is highly desirable.

Main duties of the job

To manage a full caseload in an allocated area of work within community paediatrics, ensuring each child receives the highest standard of care possible within resource limitations

To undertake the advanced assessment and treatment of children within the speciality who usually have complex and /or chronic conditions.

To liaise closely with parents, care staff and other professionals involved with this patient group.

To perform highly advanced physiotherapeutic assessment of children with diverse presentations and highly complex physical and psychological conditions, determine diagnosis, formulate, and deliver an appropriate, effective individualised treatment programme.

To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner. Have responsibility for seeking clinical peer support and evaluation of work through appropriate networks.

Plan, supervise, educate and assess the performance of physiotherapy students on placement within the paediatric section. Work closely with the university and comply with all the standards required for the degree level qualification.

Design and undertake evidence-based audit and research projects to further own and team’s clinical practice and improve service delivery within the paediatric section. Identify and implement changes as agreed with the Community Paediatric Physiotherapy Lead.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

1. Degree/diploma in physiotherapy
2. Evidence of relevant CPD
3. Postgraduate learning relevant to paediatrics

Desirable criteria

4. Evidence of leadership training
5. Membership of special interest group
6. clinical educator training

Experience

Essential criteria

7. Several years paediatric experience at band 6 level or above
8. Previous leadership experience
9. NHS experience
10. experience of clinical audit and service evaluation

Desirable criteria

11. Development of protocols and guidelines
12. Experience of working in liaison with outside agencies
13. Experience of being part of a committee

Knowledge

Essential criteria

14. Specialist knowledge of a broad range of paediatric conditions
15. Specialist knowledge of paediatric physiotherapy assessment and treatment techniques
16. Understanding of clinical governance and implications for service
17. Ability to related theory to practice

Desirable criteria

18. Awareness of local and national agendas within paediatrics
19. Knowledge of service improvement techniques

Communication

Essential criteria

20. Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills
21. Ability to pass on knowledge to others
22. Be able to overcome communication barriers
23. Able to present information in a clear and logical manner

Desirable criteria

24. Experience of makaton/alternative methods of communication
