What will I be doing as a tax graduate?
Our tax graduate programme supports your learning and development. You will work as part of the private client and/or corporate tax team while studying the ACA-CTA or ATT-CTA qualification. You will spend time at college, bridging study with practical work experience.
The variety of clients provides a well-rounded experience, and the structure of our teams enables you to learn from and be exposed to senior managers and partners during your training and beyond.
Structure of our Tax Graduate Programme
1. Year 1 – Apply problem-solving skills to prepare tax returns, engage with the team, communicate with HMRC, draft client emails, and complete basic sets of accounts. You will analyse information provided by clients and investigate gaps to fill in missing details.
2. Year 2 – Build on Year 1 by managing a small client portfolio and applying technical knowledge in more complex areas (e.g., EIS relief, capital allowances, and research & development relief). You will also have the opportunity to mentor new trainees while continuing to work toward your goals.
3. Years 3 and 4 – Identify planning opportunities with your manager and assist with providing advice. You’ll complete personal, partnership and corporate tax computations and returns to a high standard. You will review junior trainees’ work, prepare materials for managers, proactively manage client relationships, and share technical research in knowledge-sharing sessions.
At the end of Year 4, you should complete your professional qualification and begin preparing for a role as an Assistant Manager.
