About the Team
Our Cloud Platform team is a well‑established, solution‑focused engineering group driving one of the UK’s largest financial‑services transformations. We're modernising the bank’s next‑generation technical platform and partnering with product teams across the organisation to deliver secure, scalable cloud solutions for:
1. Analytics
2. GenAI/ML
3. Databases
4. Storage
5. Serverless HPC
6. Application workloads
Our remit is broad: from product curation and data‑platform capabilities to automation, quality assurance, and embedding AI into our engineering flows. Everything we build aims to empower teams and improve the developer experience.
About the Role
We’re building a cloud platform that is quick, secure and resilient for customers – and modern, easy and environmentally conscious for developers.
This role focuses on Microsoft Azure, and we’re particularly interested in people with experience in any of the following:
7. Azure: AKS, Azure Policy, Batch, Key Vault, SQL, Storage, API Management
8. Engineering fundamentals: Networking, Security, IAM, Platform Engineering
9. Tooling: Terraform, CI/CD (Harness or GitHub Actions), PowerShell, AZ CLI, Git workflows, Backstage, Dynatrace
We’re looking for a Site Reliability Engineer with strong Azure experience. Your time will be split between:
10. Managing and resolving incidents
11. Improving operational excellence
12. Driving automation and reducing toil
13. Participating in an out‑of‑hours support rota
About You
You’ll collaborate with Engineering Leads and Product Owners to shape and deliver our platform roadmap. You’ll contribute to planning, prioritising, automation, and continuous improvement. You’ll work across internal teams and technical communities, sharing knowledge, developing reusable capabilities, and supporting early‑career engineers through mentoring.
Key Responsibilities
14. Apply hands‑on engineering to maintain our Infrastructure‑as‑Code and CI/CD‑based products and services
15. Improve reliability and customer experience by enhancing automation and reducing manual effort
16. Drive operational excellence across monitoring, incident management, problem resolution, cost optimisation and reliability
17. Take accountability for the health of production and non‑production environments
18. Investigate and resolve service issues, implementing fixes and improvements through code
19. Contribute to Agile ceremonies and support continuous learning within the team
20. Provide technical expertise to help assess and manage risk
21. Communicate incident updates clearly and regularly with customers and stakeholders
22. Apply SRE principles, including chaos engineering where appropriate, to improve resilience
Essential Skills & Experience
23. Strong DevOps experience, with IaC and CI/CD pipelines (Terraform, Jenkins, Harness, or Azure DevOps)
24. Experience working with a broad range of public‑cloud technologies
25. Ability to write and maintain scripts (Python, Groovy, PowerShell, Bash)
26. Solid understanding of cloud security principles
27. Strong problem‑solving capability and structured thinking
28. Experience with monitoring tools and techniques
Desirable Skills
29. Experience using SDKs and APIs for automation
30. Certifications in Azure or another cloud provider (e.g., GCP)
31. Transferable experience from sysadmin, software engineering or similar technical fields
32. Technology‑agnostic mindset, adaptable in approach
33. Enthusiasm for continuous learning and cloud best‑practice
