Howdens have a new opportunity for a Manufacturing IT Systems Engineer to provide expert knowledge of manufacturing hardware, control systems and processes, translating requirements into enterprise solutions and process improvements while maintaining exceptional levels of system availability and support.
Responsibilities
* 1st line support of all production control manufacturing systems and line control OT hardware with co‑ordination and ownership of issues through to completion.
* Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve OT hardware issues, including the installation of replacement components.
* Ensure robust line control OT asset support processes are in place, including backup processes and spares.
* Help IT teams deliver successful installation of new assets in line with engineering project timelines.
* Analyse business requirements and create functional specifications; document all potential opportunities.
* Work with all internal teams and 3rd‑party OEMs in the delivery of support and proactive maintenance, protection and disaster recovery of existing assets.
* Act as key business contact and subject‑matter expert for operational manufacturing processes.
* Ensure all work is carried out in line with Howdens’ project methodology.
* Provide out‑of‑hours support on a weekly rota and ensure faults are fixed within system SLA.
* Document processes and systems and hardware (e.g., user guides, disaster recovery documents, etc.).
* Work closely with continuous improvement and operational teams on R&D potential improvement activities and processes.
Requirements
* At least 2 years’ experience working in an IT role within a manufacturing environment.
* Experience in troubleshooting and fault‑fixing OT hardware issues along with the installation and support of new devices.
* Familiarity with basic network concepts and different communication protocols.
* Good understanding of manufacturing processes.
* Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate business requirements into functional specifications.
* Good knowledge and understanding of supply systems.
* Basic IT skills: operating systems knowledge, basic database and file manipulation skills.
* Successful demonstration of delivery of small to medium IT projects.
* Effective communication with colleagues at different levels.
* Ability to join an on‑call rota (1 in 5).
