A leading generator hire company in the UK, specialising in providing reliable, sustainable power solutions for various sectors, such as construction/infrastructure, electrical contractors, utilities, and other applications, has an opportunity for a Workshop Maintenance Engineer.
As a Workshop Engineer specialising in large diesel engines, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability and performance of a generator fleet.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Perform routine service, maintenance, and overall upkeep of large, containerised generators (500 KVA and above) within the rental fleet.
2. Follow manufacturers’ recommended service schedules to ensure optimal performance.
3. Conduct rebuilds and repairs of large diesel engines (15L to 60L) from leading manufacturers such as Perkins, Cummins, and others.
4. Assist with general tasks in the yard, including loading and offloading equipment.
5. Operate forklift equipment as needed.
6. Deliver and collect generators and ancillary equipment using company vehicles.
7. Refuel generators as part of the delivery process when required.
8. Provide servicing and repairs for Power Electrics’ equipment as well as customer-owned equipment on-site, when necessary.
9. Participate in the company’s on-call rota system to ensure 24/7 support.
10. Assist with basic maintenance tasks, including equipment cleaning, and maintain a safe, tidy work environment in line with the Company Health & Safety Policy.
11. Adhere to relevant regulations and ISO standards (9001, 45001, 14001, 50001), actively supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
Skills and Experience
Technical Qualifications
* A relevant qualification in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Diesel Fitting, or Plant Maintenance (e.g., City & Guilds, BTEC, or equivalent).
* Alternatively, completion of an approved apprenticeship in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or equivalent proven experience in servicing and repairing large diesel engines.
* Strong fault-finding skills and effective communication abilities.
* Effective communication skills for reporting and collaboration.
