Job location: Bircholt Road, Maidstone, Kent, ME15 9XY, Swale and Maidstone Borough Council

Hours per week: 37

Start date: Immediate start

Salary: £12.21 per hour


Accountabilities (HGV Drivers only)

* Hold a full United Kingdom Driving License for at least 6 months.
* Complete all required documentation for commercial vehicle use, including defect safety books, vehicle checks, and drivers’ hours book (if required).
* Possess B1 (up to 3.5-ton) or C1 (up to 7.5-ton) UK vehicle license.
* Hold valid CPC certification with pass marks in each module (C1 drivers only).
* Maintain allocated vehicles in a clean condition and undertake maintenance checks, reporting defects as per procedure.
* Use the HGV tachograph daily, adhering to EU or AETR rules.
* Progression to this grade depends on vacancy availability.


General Tasks

* Perform street cleansing activities: sweeping, litter picking, bin emptying (including dog bins), removal of fly tipping, and clearing up during/after events.
* Handle special collections and removal of dead animals.
* Remove graffiti and fly posting.
* Use mobile technology to complete work tasks.
* Remove hazardous waste from public areas if trained.
* Represent the Street Scene team, assisting residents and visitors, and mitigating safety risks.
* Ensure proper waste disposal following regulations and policies.
* Assist in identifying environmental crimes, gathering evidence, and completing documentation.
* Maintain tools and equipment, completing maintenance checks.
* Provide witness statements and attend court as needed.
* Wear the Council’s uniform and adhere to safety regulations.
* Complete tasks efficiently, maintaining high standards of community service.
* Ensure compliance with regulations, policies, and legislation, including GDPR, equalities, and safeguarding.
* Perform other duties as directed by supervisors within skill set.
* Communicate effectively with the public.
* Participate in training and development.
* Adhere to the Council’s policies on equal opportunity, health and safety, IT security, and emergency procedures.
