Job Overview
Consultant Psychiatrist in General Adult Acute Care Inpatient Psychiatry – able to provide care across the Ablett Unit, which includes a 10‑bed female ward (Dinas Female), a 10‑bed male ward (Dinas Male), an s136 suite, a Home Treatment Team (HTT) that cares for up to 25 patients, an 8‑bed locked rehabilitation ward (Cynnydd) and a 10‑bed Older Persons functional ward (Tegid).
The adult acute care service covers a 20‑bed adult ward and the HTT. The service works closely with Community Mental Health Teams (CMHTs) to ensure timely communication and care planning. Patient care is governed by the Mental Health Measure (Wales) 2010.
Responsibilities
* Act as the treating consultant for inpatients on the Dinas Male and Female wards and for patients accepted into the Home Treatment Team.
* Serve as responsible clinician for patients admitted under the Mental Health Act.
* Provide medical leadership and supervision to the multidisciplinary team, including junior doctors.
* Collaborate with the sector consultant, CMHTs and local authorities to deliver continuity of care and robust discharge planning.
* Work within the Mental Health Measure and local policy frameworks.
* Assist with bed‑management decisions and facilitate appropriate admissions and discharges.
Qualifications
* MB, BS or equivalent medical qualification.
* Fully registered with the GMC, licence to practise at the time of appointment.
* On the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of completing CCT.
* Approved Clinician status or ability to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
* Approved under S12 or ability to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
Desirable Criteria
* Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
* MRCPsych or equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
* Welsh AC Approval.
* In‑good‑standing with the GMC, with respect to warnings and conditions on practice.
* Experience leading a multidisciplinary team.
* Experience in community psychiatric practice.
