3 Month Contract With A Local Authority
Purpose of the Role:
The Expert Assessor will undertake specialist assessments relating to children and families in the context of revocation of placement orders, care orders, and, where required, Special Guardianship Order (SGO) assessments. The role requires independent, evidence-based evaluation and professional recommendations to support local authority decision-making and court proceedings.
Key Responsibilities:
* Conduct thorough and professional assessments of family circumstances, children’s needs, and placement arrangements in line with statutory guidance.
* Provide assessments specifically related to the revocation of placement orders and care orders.
* Conduct SGO assessments where required, evaluating the suitability and capability of potential guardians.
* Prepare clear, well-evidenced written reports suitable for submission to the court, local authorities, or other statutory bodies.
* Attend case conferences, strategy meetings, or court hearings as required, providing expert evidence and professional opinion.
* Work collaboratively with social workers, legal professionals, and other stakeholders while maintaining independent professional judgment.
* Ensure assessments are completed within agreed timescales and meet quality standards.
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, statutory guidance, and best practices in child welfare and family law.
Requirements
* Relevant professional qualification (e.g., Social Work, Child and Family Studies, Psychology) and registration with appropriate professional body where applicable.
* Extensive experience in child protection, care proceedings, and family assessments.
* Proven track record in undertaking assessments for revocation of placement/care orders and SGOs.
* Familiarity with statutory guidance such as Working Together to Safeguard Children, Children Act 1989 & 2004, and related family law frameworks.
