Head of Engineering – Molecular Diagnostics / MedTech London / South East (hybrid) Competitive equity/bonus (depending on experience) The Opportunity We’re supporting an innovative and fast-scaling diagnostics company in their search for a Head of Engineering to lead the next phase of product development and commercialisation. This is a critical leadership hire, replacing a highly impactful incumbent, and will play a key role in bridging R&D, product development, and manufacturing within a cutting-edge molecular diagnostics environment. You’ll be joining a business operating at the intersection of microfluidics, semiconductor technology, and life sciences, developing next-generation point-of-care diagnostic solutions. The Role As Head of Engineering, you will: Lead and scale a multi-disciplinary engineering team (mechanical, electronics, systems, firmware, etc.) Drive end-to-end product development, from concept through to commercialisation Oversee design controls, risk management, and regulatory compliance (ISO 13485 / FDA) Collaborate closely with R&D, operations, and commercial teams Translate complex scientific concepts into robust, manufacturable products Support technology strategy and roadmap development Improve engineering processes across NPI, verification & validation, and design transfer What We’re Looking For We’re looking for a strong blend of technical depth leadership commercial awareness : Essential: Proven leadership experience in engineering or product development within medtech / diagnostics Experience delivering complex, regulated products to market Strong understanding of design controls, V&V, and regulatory frameworks Background in one or more of: Microfluidics / Lab-on-a-chip Molecular diagnostics / PCR-based systems Semiconductor-integrated systems Experience leading cross-functional teams in fast-paced environments Desirable: Exposure to point-of-care diagnostic devices Experience scaling teams in a startup or scale-up environment Familiarity with manufacturing scale-up and supplier management Advanced degree (PhD/MSc) in Physics, Engineering, or related field Why Join?
