Overview
Reporting to the SVP, Global Commercial, Elsevier Healthcare Education, the VP, Global Commercial Strategy, will lead the global commercial strategy for EHE's portfolio of Databases and Tools. The VP will oversee customer research to inform monetization models, validate market opportunities, and develop revenue models for select products in close partnership with the VP of Strategy. The VP will partner with the SVP, Global Product & Chief AI Officer in prioritizing product investments and planning customer testing for new products/markets, and will align Product, Strategy, Marketing, Sales, and Academic Success to maximize revenue growth, customer penetration, and long-term value creation across global markets. This role focuses on strategic portfolio optimization rather than hands-on GTM execution. This role requires a seasoned strategy leader with deep expertise in B2B and/or B2C digital business models and data-driven monetization frameworks. Responsibilities are within the Strategic Planning/Corporate Development Function as a generalist or in a combination of disciplines. Identifies applications of functional knowledge and existing methodologies to complex problems. Requires specialized depth and/or breadth of expertise. Interprets internal or external business issues and recommends best practices. Solves complex problems; takes a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions. Works independently, with guidance in only the most complex situations.
Key Responsibilities
* Defines and implements a comprehensive commercial strategy and portfolio governance structure aligned with EHE's growth goals for Databases & Tools inclusive of new investments, sunset planning, and expansion opportunities.
* Determines commercial strategy based on strategic fit and revenue potential.
* Evaluates market trends, customer needs, competitive landscape, and emerging technologies through research to inform strategic decisions.
* Evaluates EMEALAAP investment opportunities and defines regional prioritization.
* Partners with Product and Strategy leadership to ensure market insights, customer needs, and willingness-to-pay shape product roadmaps.
* Leads business model innovation, including subscription, licensing, data-as-a-service, and platform monetization approaches.
* Understands and monitors changing customer needs and competitive intelligence; defines approach; translates insights into strategic recommendations for product investments and monetization pathways.
* Evaluates and defines monetization pathways; works with strategy and pricing team on how to evolve pricing strategies for regional considerations.
* Builds revenue models, driven by customer research and monetization strategies while ensuring Sales & Product alignment and commitment through to execution.
* Identifies and develops partnerships, services, and strategic licensing opportunities that enhance market reach and product value.

Experience and Qualifications
* 7-10+ years of business strategy and/or consulting experience with a global perspective as well as experience in commercial, sales, and business development.
* Demonstrated ability to drive measurable growth through monetization strategies and business model innovation.
* Experience leading large, cross-functional teams across global markets in a matrixed environment.
* Advanced Excel and analytical skills.
* Deep understanding of SaaS platforms, data-driven products, platform ecosystems, and subscription-based economics.
* Strong proficiency in monetization pathways, and governance to optimize revenue.
* Strong strategy/consulting generalist experience.
* Background in global management consulting; strong in shaping strategic thinking and business case development.
* Global experience, with an emphasis on alignment across regional markets and consideration of local pricing, regulatory, and customer needs.
