Membership Manager – Volunteer
The Africa Health Organisation (AHO) seeks a Membership Manager to advise member strategy. As a volunteer, you will act as the key point of contact for members, design and implement membership growth and revenue initiatives, and support AHO’s governance, sustainability and impact.
Responsibilities
Growth and retention
* Develop and implement strategies that increase member satisfaction and loyalty, using feedback to identify pain points and encourage renewals.
* Create and execute marketing and recruitment campaigns to attract new members.
* Expand AHO’s network and influence by consistently growing the membership base.
Revenue generation
* Support the Membership Director to streamline renewal processes and manage membership income.
* Develop additional income streams beyond standard membership fees, such as paid events, online learning, merchandise and sponsorships.
* Encourage members to invest more in AHO through paid events, health programmes and additional courses.
Member engagement and satisfaction
* Champion member needs and ensure they are heard and addressed, using surveys and direct communication.
* Create opportunities for networking, collaboration and social connection to build a strong community.
* Develop and execute communication plans, from welcome emails to newsletters and social media campaigns.
* Oversee Membership Officers and ensure day‑to‑day operations of member services provide a high‑quality, responsive experience.
Strategic operations
* Analyse member behaviour, engagement metrics and retention rates to identify trends and inform decisions.
* Oversee technology used to manage membership, such as CRM software, ensuring systems are efficient, compliant with GDPR and data‑regulated.
* Lead the volunteer membership team, providing direction, training and support.
Person Specification
* Degree level in marketing, sales, business, administration, communications or related field.
* At least five years of experience presenting and communicating at senior/board level.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to influence challenging situations.
* Experience leading and prioritising within senior management contexts.
* Collaborative working style and initiative‑driven.
* Excellent CRM system skills, preferably Salesforce.
* Understanding of challenges faced by contracting businesses in the construction sector.
* Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and analytical data‑reporting ability.
* Goal‑oriented, focused on achieving targets.
Role Purpose
* Recruit, retain and nurture members through campaigns, events and targeted initiatives.
* Act as the main point of contact, providing outstanding customer service for member inquiries.
* Maintain accurate membership records and databases.
* Produce promotional materials and communicate membership value.
* Analyse and report on membership trends and performance.
