Our Engineering Research and Development department (ER&D) is a fast growing function within Tata Technologies Limited that is assembled to work on exciting projects globally for multiple customers. It comprises highly specialized engineers across Automotive, Aerospace and Industrial Heavy Machinery.
The Role:
As a Lead Engineer for series support and further development, you will take technical and organizational responsibility for a defined module (e.g., lighting, visibility, body components) during the production phase and throughout the lifecycle. You ensure that changes, problem resolutions, and optimizations are implemented on time and in compliance with customer standards. The role involves coordinating internal departments, external suppliers, and interface partners to achieve quality, cost, and timing targets.
Area of Responsibility
Module Ownership:
Lead and manage all activities within the assigned module throughout the series lifecycle.
Ensure achievement of targets related to function, cost, weight, quality, and timing.
Series Support & Change Management:
Implement changes of varying complexity (SXXL) according to customer processes (GAMSNext, PQMNext, PKR).
Prepare decision-ready documents and coordinate approvals.
Monitor implementation progress and adherence to release schedules.
Design & Development Coordination:
Oversee design modifications and integration activities for components within the module.
Validate manufacturing feasibility and production integration.
Ensure complete documentation (drawings, BOMs, approval reports).
Supplier & Interface Management:
Act as the main contact for all module-related topics with customer and suppliers.
Coordinate quality, production, logistics, and purchasing to resolve issues and implement changes.
Problem Management:
Analyse and resolve PQMNext topics, conduct root cause analysis, and define corrective measures.
Ensure timely issue closure and compliance with quality standards.
Reporting & Communication:
Prepare and present module status reports in project rounds and escalation meetings.
Communicate risks, measures, and progress transparently.
Tools & Systems:
Work with BMW-specific systems: GAMSNext, PQMNext, SAP, CATIA V6, VIP, AIDA, DOORS, JIRA, MS Office.
Ensure accurate data management and reporting.
Knowledge / Experience
Education: Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field.
Experience:
Strong experience in automotive development, with experience in leadership role (module or work package management).
Strong background in series support, change management, and supplier coordination.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in CATIA V6, CAD-PDM, SAP, and specific tools (GAMSNext, PQMNext).
Understanding of manufacturing processes, production integration, and quality standards.
Leadership & Project Management:
Ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex work packages.
Strong decision-making and negotiation skills.
Soft Skills:
Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
High initiative, reliability, and organizational skills.
