About the team
Our QA team helps support development of the STV Player, which is going through a period of rapid growth. The QA team works with all of our Engineering teams, helping identify risks and issues and ultimately helping to ensure the platform is scalable and resilient and able to service the right content to users at the right time
The QA sits within our wider Engineering team and is part of our Digital division.
About the role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Software Tester to join the team on a 6-month fixed term contract covering a period of Maternity leave. This role will be involved in development testing across STV's multiple digital platforms including mobile, web, connected TVs and set-top boxes.
You will perform hands on functional and regression testing, while authoring test plans and helping the team spot risks as features are designed and developed. This role will help product management and engineering leadership define the requirements and architecture, through to supporting the products running in production.
About You:
We're looking for candidates with:
Experience performing hands-on testing. You will undertake 'hands-on' functional and regression testing across the broad range of STV digital products and platforms ranging from Smart TV's, set-top boxes, tablet devices and smart phones.
Experience creating test plans. You will be able to review requirements, understand the inherent risks and potential impacts on other systems and detailed test plans and test cases to support new product development and enhancements.
An eye for detail and quality. You have the ability to maintain a high standard of quality whilst working to strict deadlines. You have strong debugging and optimization skills, and can effectively use unit testing to build a solid product.
Strong communication skills. You enjoy working in a team and collaborating with colleagues in other roles such as Software Engineering, UX, and Product Management. You have excellent verbal and written communication skills and choose the correct collaboration medium for the task at hand.
Knowledge of bug reporting and tracking systems. You have experience using bug tracking systems and are able to use them effectively to keep track of issues and perform analysis to spot trends and hot-spots over time.
Curiosity and a willingness to learn. You are curious about why a particular bug is occurring, about why a certain system is suddenly experience reliability issues and about how the team can improve its processes and efficiency.
It would be great if you had:
Experience of testing mobile apps and web applications.
Experience in testing RESTful APIs, using tools such Postman.
Familiarity with defect tracking systems.
Familiarity with test automation.
An ISTQB certification or equivalent agile based testing certification is desirable.
Practical knowledge of Agile development test design methodologies and techniques.
Cloud computing is a plus but not required – training will be provided.
