Working across inpatient and outpatient services alongside Midwives and Doctors to deliver women centred, holistic and personalised care.
Main duties of the job
The scope of the role and the job description for the post is aligned with the national maternity support worker competency, education and career framework and enables opportunities to develop on an exciting career pathway.
Whilst the post attracts remuneration at band 3, a band 2 salary scale will be applied until successful completion of the band 3 competencies has been achieved. It is anticipated this would be completed in the first 12 months in post.
The successful applicant will support the maternity teams, undertaking a range of clinical skills such as maternal and neonatal observations and providing care to women and babies. Be responsible for the stocking and cleanliness of the area with particular reference to infection control, health and safety and audit. This includes bed spaces or consultation rooms and also attending to the nutritional needs of the woman and her baby. This will also include offering infant feeding support for which mandatory training will be given.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Part of your working day may also include working within, IT and ELHT Pas systems and will involve covering some clerical duties, tracking case notes, filing, answering calls, inputting data and notes scanning. The candidate must display excellent communication skills at all times and must be keen to learn and display the correct attributes.

Qualification
Essential criteria
* Basic computer /IT skills
* Ability to perform physiological observations on adults
Desirable criteria
* Knowledge of NHS/ hospital systems PAS, Athena, Windip
* Experience with Patient discharge processes
* Competency in venepuncture
Work Experience
Essential criteria
* Previous experience in a similar role.
Desirable criteria
* Previous experience as a band 2 HCA or support worker
Work Skills
Essential criteria
* GCSE English and Maths Grade C/Level 4 or equivalent qualification
* Able to understand and comply with detailed procedures
Desirable criteria
* Understanding of how to formulate/follow a care plan
* Knowledge or experience of applying documentation
Communication
Essential criteria
* Have a sympathetic/sensitive approach and be able to speak effectively to staff, colleagues and patients.
* Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team
