Geopark Community Officer Job Ref: 25/CW/16 Job Title: Geopark Community Officer Duration: Fixed Term Contract, 3 years Reports to: Geopark Manager Responsible to: Head of Wellbeing and Cultural Services Location: Cuilcagh Lakelands UNESCO Global Geopark, MacNean Resource Centre, Blacklion. Post will require travel throughout the Geopark. Directorate: Community and Wellbeing Hours: 37 hours per week. Evenings, weekends and public holidays will be required at which one additional increment has been applied Salary: SO11; SCP 26-28; £36,124 - £37,938 per annum; one point for atypical working Key Purpose of the Post: The role offers the opportunity to shape the future of the Geopark delivering against the environmental, economic and social pillars of sustainability and aimed at protecting this special environment, enhancing its enjoyment by visitors and communities whilst promoting the natural and cultural heritage assets. This role will lead on ensuring environmental and social sustainability is embedded in delivery and development. You will have a key cross-border role in the ongoing development of the Geopark. The postholderwillholdresponsibilityforcommunityengagementandcapacitybuildingforthe Geopark. The postholder will be responsible for the development, delivery monitoring and evaluation of community initiatives, event and ambassador programme ensuring that the Geopark is rooted in local communities. The postholder will be responsible for general community development and awareness/capacity building work within Cuilcagh Lakelands UNESCO Global Geopark with local communities and specific interest groups. Main Duties of the Post: Contribute to the promotion and implementation of the Geopark Development Plan 2020- 2030 strategic pillars specifically relating to Community Development. Influencing policy development through both Councils (Cavan County Council and FermanaghandOmaghDistrict Council)andwithexternalbodiespertainingtothesector. Developandmaintainlinksbetweencommunitiesandstatutorybodies,fundingbodiesand other organisations with a remit to support community development activity within the Geopark. To assist other departments in both Councils to link and engage with communities as appropriate. Promote collaboration within the sector, working within designated officers to support community development activity by establishing Geopark Community Forums and development and implementation of a Geopark Community Plan EstablishmentofaGeoparkCommunities/Villagesprogrammetoassistwithengagement and increased participation. Development and implementation of the Geopark Ambassador Programme Maintain effective communication links with community organisations and special interest groupsandensurethatcommunitiesareawareofallrelevantinternalandexternalfunding opportunities and community events. Supportcommunityandvoluntarysectororganisationswiththedevelopmentanddelivery of revenue and capital projects addressing community needs. Identifyareaswherecommunityinfrastructureisweakandworkwithincommunitiesto promote development activities and lead on community outreach activities including community events programme through Geopark Ambassadors. Toprovidesupporttocommunityandvoluntarysectororganisationsaroundgovernance and best practice. Facilitatepartnershipworking/collaborationwithstakeholdergroups. Organise and promote learning opportunities meeting community needs specifically relation to UNESCO designation. Thepreparationofaccurateandtimelyreportsto GeoparkManageronthedeliveryofthe service. The preparation of claims as required to funding bodies. General : To ensure full compliance with all Health and Safety at Work legislation in accordance with theCouncilsHealthandSafetyatWorkpolicyandallassociatedproceduresandguidance and to be an advocate for high standards of Health and Safety performance. The postholder will be expected to be flexible and adaptable to meet the changing needs and requirements of the organisation. Person Specification EssentialCriteria Method of Assessment Hold a relevant degree or equivalent qualification, with 2 years' experience of providing Community Development support to include: Assistingcommunitieswiththemanagementoffinancialandother resources Assistingcommunitiessecurefundingforrevenue Partnership working/collaboration and group facilitation to deliver outcomes. In the absence of a relevant degree, applicants must hold 4 years' experience of providing community development support to include a) to c) above. General The appointment will be subject to: a) Satisfactory references from two referees (one of which should be from the present or previous employer). b) A satisfactory standard of attendance, conduct and performance in carrying out the duties of the post. c)The satisfactory completion of a probationary period of six months; with an interim 3 month probationary period. d) The terms of the Northern Ireland Local Government Pension Scheme. e) A satisfactory medical report from the Councils medical examiner which confirms fitness for employment in the position. f)SatisfactoryreceiptofaBasicAccessNICheck. g) The production of evidence of educational and/or professional qualifications as listed on the Application Form.
