The Role
We are hiring on behalf of one of our clients, a higher education provider delivering postgraduate programmes in partnership with leading UK universities.
The client is currently seeking Lecturers in Counselling to teach across a range of postgraduate levels as part of the MSc Counselling programme. Due to the delivery model, flexibility is required to teach during weekdays, evenings, and weekends.
Role and Responsibilities
* Design, plan, and deliver teaching sessions in line with faculty requirements.
* Design assessments and assess student work, ensuring all learning outcomes are met.
* Provide timely, constructive, and developmental feedback to students.
* Offer academic guidance and pastoral support to learners.
* Develop, update, and continuously improve course and module materials.
* Keep teaching practice aligned with current best practice in learning and teaching, embedding appropriate technologies to enhance the student learning experience.
* Contribute to the design, development, delivery, review, and enhancement of academic programmes.
* Attend and actively participate in meetings as required by the role.
* Build and maintain productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
* Participate in internal and external academic events, including programme reviews, open days, outreach activities, and partner visits.
* Undertake a reflective programme of continuous professional development, including teaching observations, workshops, directed study, and experiential learning.
* Support and engage in the creation, application, and dissemination of new knowledge within the field of counselling and higher education practice.
* Contribute to performance objectives relating to student attendance, continuation, completion, progression, and satisfaction.
* Act as a Module Leader and undertake relevant academic administration and management duties, as appropriate to the role.
* Undertake additional responsibilities as required to support academic delivery and institutional development.
Essential Skills and Experience
* A doctoral-level qualification in Counselling or a demonstrable track record of scholarly or professional practice at an equivalent level.
* Membership of an appropriate professional body with a formal complaints procedure.
* Familiarity with, and commitment to working within, the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions.
* Experience of teaching within UK higher education.
* A strong commitment to education as a transformative activity.
* Experience of working within widening participation or access-focused learning environments.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Strong IT skills, including competence with Microsoft Office applications (PowerPoint, Excel, Word).
* Experience supervising student work and providing academic support and feedback.
* Experience supporting learners in both face-to-face and online settings.
* Demonstrable professionalism in all interactions with students and colleagues.
* Strong organisational skills, including accurate reporting and maintenance of student records.
* Ability to work under pressure, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines.
* Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
* Ability to work effectively with diverse student cohorts.
Desirable Skills and Experience
* Current BACP accreditation or registration with an equivalent professional body.
* Current, supervised professional practice as a counsellor or psychotherapist.
* A recognised teaching qualification such as PGCHE, MA in Higher Education Practice, or Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
