An exciting opportunity has arisen for an existing band 7 or experienced band 6 occupational therapist to join the Critical Care and Surgery Team at Nottingham City Hospital. This maternity cover, secondment, or fixed-term full-time role involves 37.5 hours across various specialties.
We seek a highly motivated, dynamic individual committed to leading clinical practice, evolving the Occupational Therapy role, and developing patient pathways. The successful candidate will demonstrate advanced hyper-acute and acute assessment and intervention skills, including rehabilitation. Stroke and/or neuro experience is essential; critical care experience is desirable.
The role includes leading and developing the team's clinical skills, providing strong leadership, teaching, and service development. It offers opportunities to develop across all pillars of practice within a supportive team. Clinical areas include: Cardiac Surgery, Cardiology, Critical Care, Upper GI Surgery, Thoracic Surgery, Infectious Diseases, Urology Surgery, Urology Medicine, Colorectal Surgery, and Gynaecology Surgery. The role requires active participation in weekend working rota.
Main duties of the job
* Demonstrate advanced patient assessment and intervention skills in relevant areas, including hyper-acute assessments and rehabilitation.
* Promote a rehabilitative approach across the service.
* Lead and support team members clinically.
* Support cognitive assessments and rehabilitation, especially for long-stay critical care patients or those with hypoxic brain injury.
* Supervise staff including band 6, band 5, support workers, and students.
* Undertake managerial and operational duties alongside clinical tasks.
* Collaborate with Therapy Service Managers and senior colleagues to develop evidence-based practice.
* Support student placements and provide training.
* Work within multidisciplinary teams across clinical areas.
* Contribute to team and wider MDT education.
* Ensure practice is evidence-based, with service development and education underpinning delivery.

The OT service is part of the Therapies, Outpatients and Phlebotomy Services (TOPS) Directorate within the Specialist Clinical Services care group. Our directorate includes around 1000 staff, including physiotherapists, dietitians, occupational therapists, orthotists, prosthetists, and speech and language therapists, led by a Chief AHP and supported by Practice Development Therapists.
