Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Ophthalmology Technician to join our busy and fast paced Ophthalmology outpatient department.

We are currently looking for a self-motivated, pro-active individual with both excellent time management and organisational skills to join our team.

The successful candidate will support the delivery of Ophthalmology, and Orthoptic services within the Trust and the community setting performing diagnostic tests to aid clinician investigation and diagnosis of patients attending the Eye Clinic.

Although your base working location will be The Royal Surrey Foundation Trust Hospital, working at our community sites is a vital requirement for the successful post holder and own transport is essential.This role will be offered on a permanent basis at band 3 level AfC, 37.5 hours per week. Previous Ophthalmology experience is desirable however, developmental training will be provided for the post holder to become proficient in selected areas of ophthalmic imaging, such as Optical Coherence Tomography, Visual Fields, Corneal Topography and more.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic and committed Ophthalmic Technician and will welcome any forward thinking, caring individual who is committed to providing a high standard of patient care to our patients.You must display excellent communication skills and be confident to deal with patients, families, carers and members of the multidisciplinary team.

You will be given the appropriate training to undertake specific Ophthalmic investigations under the instruction and supervision of clinicians and nurse in charge.

The eye clinic is a very busy clinical area, and the Ophthalmic technician role supports the clinic to run smoothly and effectively.

We are looking for someone who has all ophthalmic technician skills and also role models the trust values in their everyday working.

Qualifications

General educations: GCSE or equivalent including English, Maths
Willing to undertake role-specific training and competencies

Desirable

NVQ Level 3 in Health or equivalent experience
Ophthalmic/Healthcare (Care Certificate) - related qualification or training

Knowledge

Essential

Experience working with the public or in a customer-facing role
Experience working as part of a team in a health or social care environment
Understanding of patient confidentiality and safeguarding
Basic awareness of health and safety and infection prevention control

Desirable

Previous experience in an ophthalmology or diagnostic clinical setting
Experience using clinical equipment or performing basic diagnostic tests
Basic knowledge of ophthalmic anatomy, eye conditions, and terminology
Awareness of NHS values and patient-centered care
