Harrison Clarke has been retained on a genuinely pivotal hire for a high-performing Financial Services firm modernising the way they build, ship, and run software. They’re looking for a Lead Software Engineer, Developer Productivity to own the tooling, platforms, and deployment pipelines that make engineering teams faster, safer, and happier.
If you love the idea of being the “engineer for engineers” - building internal products that remove friction, supercharge delivery, and scale across teams - this one’s got your name all over it.
The Opportunity
You’ll sit at the centre of the engineering org, shaping the developer experience end-to-end.
Think:
* Designing platforms that make shipping boring (in the best way)
* Building golden paths, paved roads, and self-service tooling
* Scaling CI/CD and release workflows across a multi-cloud footprint
* Partnering with product, infra, and security to elevate velocity without sacrificing reliability
* This is a highly visible role with real influence on engineering culture and outcomes.
What You’ll Build & Own
* A modern developer productivity platform that eliminates bottlenecks
* Robust CI/CD pipelines and deployment frameworks
* Multi-cloud infrastructure patterns that scale cleanly
* Containerised environments and workflows that are secure, repeatable, and fast
* Automation that makes environments, releases, and observability effortless
What We’re Looking For
We’re after someone who blends strong software fundamentals with serious platform/infra intuition.
You should have:
* Strong coding ability in Java, Scala, Python, or Go
* A real passion for building tools and platforms for engineers
* Deep CI/CD experience with Jenkins, CircleCI, TravisCI, or similar
* Proven expertise across multi-cloud environments: AWS, Azure, and/or GCP
* Infrastructure automation experience with Terraform and/or CloudFormation
* Hands-on container orchestration knowledge using Docker + Kubernetes
Bonus points if you’re the kind of person who:
* Treats internal tooling like a product
* Obsessively simplifies processes
* Measures productivity with outcomes, not vanity metrics
* Enjoys mentoring and setting engineering standards
Why This Role Is Interesting
* Massive impact: your work directly improves how every engineer in the company ships software.
* Real technical ownership: you’ll lead key platform decisions across build, deploy, and runtime.
* A modernisation journey: plenty to build from scratch and plenty to optimise at scale.
* Engineering-first culture: you’ll be empowered to drive change, not just maintain pipelines.
Ideal Background
This role is a standout fit for someone who’s spent time in platform engineering / developer experience / infra automation, but still loves writing clean, scalable software. You know how to build systems that engineers actually want to use.
