About the role

Background to the Project The project “Pathways to(wards) carbon neutrality for climate, environment, health, and socio-economic co-benefits (PANTHEON)” funded by the European Union's Horizon program has been awarded to UCL. This project aims to develop an integrated participatory modeling approach, which integrates the multisectoral input-output model (MRIO) and Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) model, to assess the potential of various technologies to contribute to decarbonization in the energy and industrial sectors and evaluate their socio-economic and environmental impacts along global value chains. It focuses on mature solutions like wind and solar, as well as emerging technologies such as green hydrogen and supercritical CO2 enhanced geothermal systems (EGCS), assessing their readiness, deployment, efficiency, emission reduction potential, and costs. The investigators are a multidisciplinary team with decarbonisation experts in carbon accounting, economic analysis, and environmental assessment. The successful applicant will contribute to developing an innovative and integrated modelling framework (the MRIO-CGE model) to systematically assess the future mitigation potential and decarbonization pathways of net-zero technologies in energy and industrial sectors, creating a techno-economic database, and evaluate the socioeconomic and environmental co-benefits and trade-offs. Policy implications will be given for carbon-neutrality roadmaps under technical constraints and decarbonization goals, across scales and regions. This is a full-time role from 1st December until 31st October.. Main purpose of the job The project requires a candidate with insightful, reflective, and critical capabilities and knowledge of the multi-regional input-output analysis, CGE model and climate change policies. The candidate should master at least one programming language for data-driven analysis. Experience of working in scenario analysis and supply chain analysis is desirable, together with extensive academic writing experience to enable them to deliver policy briefs and engage with policy makers. They will commit to high-quality research and development and be able to work collaboratively as part of a team. They will hold a good Bachelor’s degree and a PhD in economics, energy engineering, or a relevant built environment subject. The Research Fellow will work towards liaising with colleagues at UCL and across the consortium at all levels and in different business functions; have a proactive approach and ability to communicate effectively in a variety of formats is essential. They will have effective written and verbal communication skills; project management and implementation skills; administrative ( time management, reporting) and IT skills ( interface design and data analytics); and basic research skills and the ability to analyse and write up data.
