PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
This role sits within the News on iPlayer team where we create impactful mid and longform content. We are looking for experienced, creative and versatile Video Journalists who have a passion for storytelling and can initiate, gather and edit material at pace. You will be tuned into what audiences are consuming on streaming platforms and be prepared to pivot quickly as the team adapts to breaking stories. The job will involve routinely self-shooting and editing complex video projects - travel and working outside the office is required.
WHY JOIN THE TEAM
The News on iPlayer team makes content that has a huge impact in bringing non-news audiences to BBC streaming platforms. Formats like The Big Cases, Scams & Scandals, Access All Areas and On the Front Line are just some of the content you will find yourself working on. Add in quick turnaround programmes and collaborations with our Streaming Live colleagues on big breaking news stories – youll always be busy.
You’ll be joining a team who cares about where our audiences are at as we dive into the data consistently to inform the output we commission and create. We are a team collaborating across BBC Network news and Nations and Regions news teams.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT
* To confidently and independently self-shoot and edit interviews and sequences using either camera or MOJO equipment as appropriate, including the ability to work effectively in fast‑paced, live environments.
* To produce multi-platform content tailored for different audiences, producing content for iPlayer first, but not iPlayer only.
* To collaborate with BBC teams to share material, avoid duplication, and maintain best practice.
* To plan and prioritise work independently while meeting tight deadlines.
* To work effectively as part of the team, supporting colleagues and contributing towards shared goals.
* To contribute and develop story and format ideas with strong editorial judgment and creativity.
* Able to apply BBC Editorial Guidelines confidently to produce accurate and impartial journalism.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
* Proven ability and experience as a self‑shooting journalist who can combine technical proficiency with high‑quality production skills and compelling visual storytelling.
* Demonstrable history of producing video packages for digital or linear using shooting and editing skills such as FCP or Premiere.
* Effective planning and organisational skills; capable of managing multiple tasks and working with multiple stakeholders in a way that ensures positive working relationships and respectful collaboration.
* Ability to work independently without supervision while maintaining high standards.
* Flexibility and adaptability when under pressure and editorial priorities are pivoting – and the ability to deliver consistently to tight deadlines – including being able to work evenings and weekends to deliver always on news coverage.
DESIRABLE BUT NOT ESSENTIAL
* Experience using video production and editing skills on longer form programme making.
* Understanding of multi‑platform storytelling to engage diverse and news‑avoidant audiences.
* Knowledge of the VOD / Streaming landscape in the UK.
