Job Title: Shift Supervisor (Food Manufacturing) Location: Barnsley Salary: £17.54 per hour Reporting to: Area Leader The Opportunity We are recruiting on behalf of a leading food manufacturing specialist in Barnsley. We are looking for a professional, decisive, and balanced Shift Supervisor to manage the day-to-day operations of key production departments (including High-Care Fillers, Bulk, Prep, and Packing). Key Responsibilities Operational Oversight: Manage the hour-to-hour operation of the department, ensuring production schedules are achieved in full and targets are recorded on SIC boards. Team Leadership: Supervise and motivate a team of Production Operatives. You will handle rotas, conduct Return to Work (RTW) interviews, and manage performance (including disciplinary meetings up to stage 2). Health & Safety: Build a safe working culture. You will be responsible for pre-start checks, hazard reporting, and ensuring all near-misses are closed out with sustainable corrective actions. Quality & Compliance: Take ownership of product quality and GMP/Hygiene standards. You will ensure the department remains "audit-ready" at all times for unannounced visits and technical inspections. Performance Analysis: Monitor machine downtime, material variances, and giveaway/waste. Deliver detailed handovers and daily reports to the Area Leader. Continuous Improvement: Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Technical, and HR teams to drive efficiencies and cost-awareness. Candidate Requirements Experience: Minimum 12 months of supervisory or "stand-in" experience within the food industry (chilled food manufacturing experience is highly preferred). Certifications: You must hold Level 2 certificates in Health & Safety, Food Safety, and HACCP. Skills: Exceptional communication and influencing skills, with the ability to prioritize work effectively under pressure. Flexibility: A flexible approach to hours is required to handle the unpredictability of food manufacturing, such as unplanned events or urgent audits.
