The Solutions Architect leads the design and delivery of scalable, well‑structured automation and software solutions across global artwork production workflows. This role is central to enabling technically capable engineers to work effectively by providing clear architectural direction, reducing ambiguity, and replacing technical debt with robust systems. It operates with deep domain understanding and a strong strategic mindset to guide teams toward long‑term maintainable solutions.
Primary Responsibilities
* Design clear, modular, scalable architecture for production systems, ensuring engineers can implement solutions without introducing further technical debt.
* Translate complex requirements into structured, implementable specifications and workflows.
* Identify and remediate weaknesses in existing automation and prepress infrastructure.
* Guide the adoption of best practices in configuration, integration, and system lifecycle management.
* Act as the go‑to expert for workflow and automation design, ensuring system‑level coherence across all deployments.
* Collaborate with Operations, R&D, Software Development, customers and third‑party vendors to align technology with business outcomes.
* Create high‑quality documentation and standard operating patterns that support consistent and correct implementation by engineers.
* Provide architectural oversight during implementation to catch risks early and reinforce solution integrity.
Nature & Scope
* Regular contact with internal teams across Operations, Technical Solutions, R&D, Software Development and Client Services to support implementation, maintenance, and improvement of automated workflows.
* Collaboration closely with prepress and production teams to ensure solutions meet operational needs and quality standards.
* Potential liaison with external vendors for technical support, system updates, and integration of third‑party tools.
* Clear and constructive communication across technical and non‑technical audiences.
Level of Responsibility
* End‑to‑end responsibility for design, configuration, reliability, and performance of automated prepress workflows and production processes.
* High degree of independence; solutions must meet business, technical, and compliance requirements.
* Accountable for identifying inefficiencies, resolving workflow issues, and driving continuous improvement.
* Senior point of contact for technical problem‑solving and maintaining high production standards across teams.
Decision‑Making Authority
* Tactical: moderate level of decision‑making authority within guidelines and policies.
Physical & Sensory Demands
* Physically sedentary; high sensory demand.
* Extensive DSE use and concentration with attention to detail.
* Prolonged sitting with breaks possible.
Working Environment
* Hybrid: office environment with some time working from home.
Knowledge & Skills
* Strong architectural thinking applied in hands‑on production or automation environments.
* Proven ability to reduce ambiguity through structured designs and actionable specifications.
* Excellent documentation and communication skills, particularly with mixed‑experience teams.
* Understanding of documentation composition and version control.
Desirable But Not Essential
* Familiarity with DevOps/project tools such as Azure DevOps, JIRA.
Education
* Required: GCSE level in English and Maths or equivalent.
* Preferred: Degree level or related professional qualifications.
Experience
* Proven experience in working with complex systems and requirements, providing translation into fundamental product design and documentation suitable for a mixed audience.
