Shift: Monday – Friday

Salary: Competitive, with opportunities for growth

We are looking for a Site Services Engineer to join our dedicated Engineering team at Nicholas & Harris. This role is key to maintaining and improving the reliability, safety, and compliance of our site services and infrastructure, ensuring a stable and efficient environment for our bakery operations.

About the Role

As a Site Services Engineer, you will play a vital role in keeping our Salisbury bakery safe, compliant, and running efficiently. Working as part of a small but highly skilled team, you’ll be responsible for maintaining all site utilities and building services—including electrical systems, plumbing, HVAC, fire systems, water testing, emergency lighting, and general facilities maintenance.

Reporting to the Engineering Shift Lead, this role is hands‑on and technically varied, combining planned and reactive maintenance, statutory testing, documentation management, and contractor coordination. You’ll support production teams by ensuring essential services remain reliable and compliant, contributing to a safe and effective operating environment.

What You’ll Do

* Carry out electrical testing, inspection, and certification in line with 18th / 19th Edition and 2391/2392 standards.
* Maintain and improve building services and site utilities, including electrical distribution, HVAC, plumbing, and drainage systems.
* Perform statutory testing and maintain accurate records for water systems, fire alarms, emergency lighting, and other compliance requirements.
* Support planned preventative maintenance and respond promptly to reactive issues across the site.
* Work closely with two Site Services Technicians on general building maintenance and upkeep.
* Coordinate external contractors, ensuring safe systems of work, permit compliance, and adherence to site standards.
* Investigate issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to improve reliability and site safety.
* Maintain accurate compliance documentation and ensure all work meets legal, Group, and site‑specific requirements.
* Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, Technical, HSE, and Compliance teams to support smooth site operation.
* Contribute to continuous improvement across efficiency, safety, sustainability, and service delivery.

Ideal Candidate

* 18th Edition (BS 7671) qualification and 2391 Testing & Inspection, with proven experience.
* Proven experience in building services, facilities, or site maintenance within manufacturing or similar environments.
* Good understanding of plumbing, HVAC, and general utilities systems.
* Ability to read technical drawings and follow safety, compliance, and permit‑to‑work procedures.
* Confident working both independently and as part of a small, close‑knit team.
* Strong communication skills, with the ability to partner effectively with internal teams and external contractors.
* Highly organised, methodical, and proactive, with excellent attention to detail.
* Safety‑conscious mindset and commitment to maintaining high compliance standards.
* Experience within food manufacturing or FMCG.
* Familiarity with CMMS systems (e.g. Ultimo).
* IPAF/scissor‑lift training or willingness to obtain.
* Experience supporting continuous improvement or minor projects.
* Knowledge of sustainability, utilities efficiency, or energy optimisation initiatives.

Benefits

* Enhanced maternity & paternity leave to allow quality time with your new arrival.
* Enhanced pension scheme for our employees.
* Death in service benefit.
* Free Employee Assistance Programme (open to colleagues and their families).
* Retail discounts accessible via our Benefits Hub platform.
* Company shop available at sites (heavily discounted, yummy products!).
* Refer a Friend Scheme (up to £300 per referral – T&Cs dependent).
* Employee Recognition Awards.
* Extensive learning & development opportunities (including sponsored professional memberships and in‑house development courses).
* Opportunity to be part of a fantastic, growing organisation.
