Social Worker – Leaving and Aftercare, West Essex
Permanent, Full Time. Salary: £37,185 to £50,081 per annum. Location: Harlow. Working style: Community‑based worker. Closing Date: 4th November 2025.
Essex County Council has developed a nine‑day working fortnight for full‑time frontline Social Workers within Children’s services to promote flexibility and wellbeing. The social worker will support young people aged 16 to 25 who are in care or have left care, working closely with partners to remove barriers and build resilience.
About The Team
The Leaving and After Care Teams are a diverse blend of social workers, personal advisors, mental health coordinators and youth advisors. Each team member brings unique expertise to empower young people and support them to thrive after care by facilitating access to education, training and employment opportunities.
Responsibilities
• Provide comprehensive support to young people aged 16‑25, both in care and after leaving care, across the wider operational area of Essex.
• Coordinate with providers, agencies and partner organisations to unlock the full potential of young people in care.
• Offer guidance, information and practical support to those who have left care to navigate the challenges of independent living.
• Maintain accurate case records and use information technology systems including Word and Social Work case recording systems.
• Work flexibly, including evenings and weekends, and travel across the county of Essex, carrying service users and their belongings. A driving licence and access to a car or other means to meet mobility requirements is essential.
Qualifications
* Diploma or degree in Social Work, CQSW, CSS or equivalent
* Registration with Social Work England as a registered Social Worker
* Demonstrable capability of practice in accordance with current professional standards (e.g. PCF, KSS)
* Experience in case recording
* Ability to apply social work knowledge, emotional intelligence and analytical skills in challenging social and family situations
* Good working knowledge and ability to use information technology and related systems (e.g. Word, Social Work case recording systems)
* Required to work flexibly, including evenings and weekends if necessary
