Your new role
Title:mercial AnalystLocation: Darlington Reports to: Finance andmercial Manager Purpose of the RoleThemercial Analyst will play a central role in the economic evaluation of major Transport & Storage infrastructure investments. This includes developing robust investment appraisal cash flow models, analysing cost drivers, supportingmercial strategy, and enabling evidence‑based decision‑making for multi‑billion‑pound assets.The role provides core analytical support to the entire team, ensuringmercial, regulatory, and technical assumptions are integrated into consistent economic frameworks that inform FID decisions, stakeholder reporting and long‑term planning. What You Will Deliver
Economic Modelling & Analysis:
Build and maintainplex economic models for Transportation & Storage infrastructure to evaluate investment opportunities and support financial planning
Ensure all investment models follow regulatory requirements on cost allocation, economic valuation, depreciation, and asset categorisation
Evaluate investment and financing options through NPV, IRR and scenario‑based analysis.
Support FID cases through economic risk assessment and strategic sensitivity analysis.
Regulatory Reporting &pliance Support:
Support the preparation, validation, and submission of regulatory reporting required for Transport & Storage activities
Work with Finance,pliance, and Project Delivery teams to ensuremercial and cost data is accurate, auditable, and aligned with regulatory definitions.
Maintain clear documentation of assumptions, methodologies, and data sources to ensurepliance and readiness for external review.
Contributemercial analysis and evidence to regulatory consultation responses andpliance submissions.
Performance Reporting &ernance:
Producemercial dashboards, KPI reports, and variance analysis for management reviews.
Produce clear, evidence-based presentations for leadership andernance bodies.
Highlight key value drivers,mercial risks, and opportunities to senior stakeholders.
Support the Finance &mercial team in preparingmercial inputs forernance, investment papers, and leadership updates.
Act as a central analytical point of contact formercial queries across the business.
What you'll need to succeed
Education and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, engineering, business, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
Essential Experience:
Strong economic modelling and analytical skills
Knowledge of project economics (discounted cash flow, NPV, IRR, sensitivity analysis).
Experience inmercial analysis, corporate finance, or business planning—ideally in energy, infrastructure, or capital‑intensive industries.
Ability to interpretplex data and translate it into clearmercial insights.
Strong attention to detail:
Excellentmunication skills and ability to influence stakeholders.
Desirable Experience
Experience of project financing or major capital projects.
Experience supportingmercial negotiations or contract development
Experience in regulated industries.
