Robert Half is partnering this South Manchester/Cheshire based leading medical communications and healthcare consultancy group, serving clients in biotech, pharma, and healthcare technology in the appointment of a Group Financial Controller.
The main purpose of the role will be to lead the group finance function and ensure the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of all group-level financial reporting and compliance. The Group Financial Controller plays a key leadership role in overseeing statutory reporting, group consolidation, financial controls, and compliance with accounting standards, providing strategic insight and financial governance to support the CFO and broader executive team.
Reporting directly into the Group CFO, main duties will include:
Financial Reporting & Consolidation
1. Oversee the preparation of consolidated financial statements under UK GAAP.
2. Deliver high-quality board and investor-level reporting, analysis, and insights
3. Own and manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process for the group.
Lender & Investor reporting
4. Prepare monthly and quarterly Lender reporting packs
5. Prepare quarterly covenent calcuations and certificates
6. Prepare monthly Investor reporting packs
7. Provide adhoc reports and analysis as and when requested to the Investor
Statutory Reporting & Audit
8. Lead the production of statutory accounts for all legal entities across the group
9. Manage relationships with external auditors and ensure timely completion of the annual audit
10. Ensure full compliance with Companies House, HMRC, and other regulatory bodies
Technical Accounting & Compliance
11. Act as the group's technical accounting expert, advising on IFRS/GAAP matters and implementing new standards
12. Maintain and enhance internal controls in line with best practices and audit requirements
Budgeting & forecasting
13. Lead production of annual budgets (3 statement model and covenant calculations) and quarterly reforecasts
14. Production of in month P&L forecast for circulation to senior management and the board on a weekly basis
Team Management
15. Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing group finance team.
16. Set clear objectives, conduct regular performance reviews, and support professional development
17. Promote a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement
Finance Operations
18. Ensure customers are invoiced in a timely manner
19. Responsible for ensuring the customer and project data in the project management system (CMAP) is complete and accurate
Tax, Treasury and Risk
20. Oversee group tax compliance, including corporation tax, VAT, and transfer pricing in collaboration with advisors
21. Support cash flow forecasting, treasury operations, and banking relationships
22. Management of group's FX exposure
23. Preparation of rolling 13-week cashflow forecast
24. Contribute to risk management and financial governance
Business Partnering & Strategy Support
25. Support the CFO with strategic financial planning, M&A activity, and integration.
26. Identify and implement initiatives that directly enhance EBITDA through cost optimisation, process improvement, and commercial insight
27. Provide clear, forward-looking analysis to support strategic decisions, investment cases, and business transformation initiatives
Systems, AI & Process Innovation
28. Evaluate, select and implement new systems
29. (including AI and automation tools) to drive efficiency, reduce manual tasks, and lower operational costs across Finance and the wider business
30. Lead finance transformation projects to modernise reporting, forecasting, and transaction processing
31. Champion the use of data and technology to support decision-making and scale the business effectively
Experience and Qualifications
32. Fully qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) with post-qualification experience in a senior financial reporting role
33. Strong technical accounting knowledge (UK GAAP essential)
34. Proven experience in the preparation of multi- currency complex group consolidations
35. Proven experience in the preparation of acquisition accounts
36. Knowledge of transfer pricing and non-UK corporation tax legislation requirements
37. Prior experience managing foreign currency exposure and the use of fx management instruments
38. Experience integrating acquisitions
39. Demonstrable experience of using systems and automation to deliver operational efficiencies
