We now have an exciting opportunity for a skilled and motivated Maintenance Operative – Plumber to join our regional Delivery team, supporting NHS buildings across Bedford and the surrounding areas. This role is ideal for someone with strong commercial plumbing experience, a positive attitude, and a commitment to delivering high standards of service.
About the Role
As a Maintenance Operative – Plumber, you will deliver high‑quality plumbing maintenance services across a portfolio of commercial NHS properties. You will work primarily independently, managing your daily workload while being fully supported by an experienced operational team.
Your day‑to‑day duties will include planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive repairs, and remedial works, with a particular focus on commercial plant rooms and associated systems. The role also includes participation in the on‑call rota, for which an allowance will be paid.
Shift pattern:
Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm. This is a permanent full time position.
Who You Are
You are a dependable and experienced plumbing operative who takes pride in their work and enjoys working in a fast‑paced, customer‑focused environment. You bring a proactive, positive attitude and understand the importance of compliance, safety, and service delivery within an NHS setting.
Key Responsibilities
1. Delivering commercial plumbing maintenance across NHS properties
2. Completing PPM, reactive, and remedial works
3. Maintaining and repairing commercial plant room equipment
4. Diagnosing faults and carrying out effective repairs
5. Ensuring compliance with health & safety and NHSPS standards
6. Accurately completing job records and compliance documentation
7. Taking part in the on‑call rota, responding to out‑of‑hours issues when required
8. Building strong working relationships with colleagues and on‑site stakeholders
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
9. Proven experience in a commercial plumbing environment (essential)
10. Experience maintaining systems within commercial plant rooms
11. NVQ Level 2 in plumbing & Heating (essential)
12. Legionella awareness or experience (desirable – training can be provided)
13. Full UK driving licence
14. Good communication skills and a customer‑focused approach
Where You’ll Be
This is a field‑based role covering Bedford and surrounding areas, including Biggleswade, Luton and Milton Keynes. You’ll be provided with a company van and tools to support your work.
