Overview
The Consultant Psychiatrist in Old Age Psychiatry (North Denbighshire) will cover Older Persons Services, including GP surgeries in the North Denbighshire area. The post will provide CPA reviews, ward rounds for inpatients, outpatient clinics, and medical input to the memory service. It involves dealing with organic referrals for the catchment area and working to develop an age-equal or needs-based specialist Older Persons Mental Health Service (OPMHS) from the catchment area.
The post may at times attract a junior doctor, depending on availability in the training rota. The post holder will be expected to comply with the Mental Health (Wales) Measure 2010 and undertake responsibilities under the Mental Health Act (1983) as a section 12/2 approved doctor.
Responsibilities
* Provide specialist psychiatric assessment, treatment and management for people with cognitive impairment (including Young Onset Dementias) and those over 70 with functional illnesses.
* Lead on medical input within the Older Persons Mental Health Service for the catchment area, including coordinating care with CMHTE, Primary Mental Health Services for the Elderly, and developing care and treatment plans for a limited number of personal cases.
* Provide medical leadership within legislative arrangements of the Mental Health (Wales) Measure 2010, and provide reports and consultation services to support Health Board commissioning of long-term care for patients in the catchment area.
* Provide Consultant and Responsible Clinician services to patients admitted to Bryn Hesketh and Tegid Ward, and opinions under the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act for patients from the catchment area.
* Contribute to outpatient clinics, ward rounds, and inpatient care as part of the Older Persons Services.
Qualifications and requirements
* Essential: MB BS or equivalent medical qualification; Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practice at the time of appointment.
* Essential: Included on the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of completing CCT; Approved Clinician status or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment; Approved under S12 or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
* Desirable: MRCPsych or MRCPsych-equivalent; Welsh AC Approval.
* Desirable: In good standing with GMC with respect to warnings and conditions on practice.
Skills and Teaching
* Evidence of training in core and specialist competencies for community psychiatry (essential);
* Experience in leading a multidisciplinary team (desirable);
* Evidence of delivering postgraduate teaching and multidisciplinary teaching (essential);
* Experience of teaching medical students (desirable).
