Purpose:
At DASI, the role of the Trade Compliance Officer is to work with the International Operations Manager, and DASI’S third party Customs Broker, to ensure accurate and timely presentation of all relevant documentation required for Customs clearance on all Inbound Shipments. Your role will include managing databases and supporting the IOM when out in the field on projects.
The role will also support a growing Export Compliance program and will work closely with the Director of Quality and the IOM to develop this role
Key accountabilities:
• Maintain HS, HTS, Schedule B and ECCN for every part number within the parts master records.
• Review and update customs documentation, including declarations and commodity coding.
• Report of all inbound and outbound shipments to accurately record the 5 year exposure of any duty deferment.
• Create and update Customs and regulatory policy, documentation and processes.
• Provide clear customs clearance instructions to forwarders and Customs brokers.
• Investigate and implement practices that support DASI in managing its duty payable and exposure, for example, further initiatives such as setting up a Bonded Warehouse and managing deferment accounts.
• Provide backup for the International Operations Manager for incoming pipeline shipments when field based pre-inspections are taking place.
• Minimise exposure to duties and taxes in relation to international trade.
• Develop and maintain trade compliance topics in all current regulations and provide internal training as required to relevant staff.
• Possible growth in the role to take on export compliance activity once part master database has been created on all current part numbers (24 months away).
• Perform all other duties as assigned.
Key skills and competences:
• Can work efficiently on their own as well as in a team.
• Can operate within target dates and can prioritize workloads as the inbound shipment arrivals dictate.
• Can operate computerized systems and has good knowledge of excel and data management techniques.
Experience and qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Good knowledge of UK/EU and USA Imports including ITAR.
• Mature approach to managing 3rd party logistics providers and customs brokers.
• Excellent knowledge of regulatory and customs requirements as they relate to the aviation industry.
• 5 years + experience in a compliance role essential.
• Strong internal & external communication skills.
• Strong written skills.
• Ability to work well both on your own and within a team environment.
• Proven experience with duty relief management, tariff classification, customs valuation and customs origin.
